The argument here that makes no sense, and I don't care how it impacts it in 2 or 4 year's time...

People consistently chirp that Barry isn't eligible for an AT XI, and then votes him into the 4th.

The argument isn't if he's good enough, but eligible. And if he makes the 4th he's eligible for the 1st or 2nd.

It's a very contrarian argument.
Well, it definitely makes sense if people just, yk, don't rate Barry over Hobbs, Hutton, Gavaskar and Sutcliffe. That's 2 teams, then there's Grace for whom these arguments are significantly more applicable for, and Trumper for whom peer rep applies significantly more. So 4th team is about right.

If he made it into the 4th team, he isn't a top 10 bat.
Is that what it's about? Proving a point?

Well firstly there's no accounting for bad judgement, but that aside. Have you ever wondered why so many do rank him top ten, and some quite higher? Why I rank him top 10?

I also assume this has to do with my comment about Imran not being the 3rd best player of all time if he can't make the first team?

In any event, with Barry it's never been about quality. He's made more AT first and 2nd teams than Sutcliffe and Boycott combined.
It can't be only about tests either, because Grace....
So what is it about?
