Decent effort from Beeb voters. I can forgive Jimmy in the side - he is an English hero.

think you've missed a few for McGrath there, where 'few' is interpreted as 'most'

Cricinfo tells me he had 22 wins for 109 wickets @ 20.13

I'm an idiot. 8-)
Thanks for that. Still can't get over Johnson's figures. Same amount of 5fers as McGrath though. I'd have Botham, Johnson, Warne, Lillee and McGrath as the bowlers. Not that they would need 5.

I'm not really sure why "figures in won Tests" are particularly relevant; you could look at the same bowlers in Ashes Tests not won:

8 McGrath 48 @ 22.72 sr 44.4
13 Broad 42 @ 35.00 sr 60.5
16 Anderson 40 @ 50.15 sr 86.5
10 Johnson 25 @ 55.28 sr 78.7

and deduce that McGrath is an ATG, Broad is moderate and the other two are a waste of space.

It is quite noticeabl how different the ranking of bowlers' averages becomes when you only consider "wins" or "not wins": some other "not win" averages in ascending order:

Barnes 23.33
Lillee 24.27
Lindwall 25.28
Laker 25.72
Miller 28.70
Bedser 29.03
Willis 29.32
Warne 29.70
Trueman 30.29
Botham 31.64
Underwood 31.73
Davidson 32.56
Tate 35.53
O'Reilly 36.41
Grimmett 38.52
Benaud 39.95
Verity 41.74
Hoggard 43.39
Noble 44.06
Lee 50.63
Larwood 67.30
Swann 68.59

The same bowlers in Ashes wins:

Laker 8.91
Trueman 14.52
Davidson 15.37
O'Reilly 15.53
Verity 16.53
Underwood 16.54
Bedser 16.69
Lillee 17.68
Miller 17.74
Noble 17.78
Barnes 19.30
Lindwall 19.40
Warne 20.52
Benaud 21.19
Willis 22.29
Larwood 22.94
Tate 23.50
Grimmett 23.53
Botham 23.56
Swann 24.25
Hoggard 28.00
Lee 35.10
