Afridi odi bowling is very very good and consistent but Yuvraj with his batting can be a game changer. In Afridi's favour he brings more to the table with the bat then yuvraj does with his bowling both are also good feilders who are declining with age in this skill.

Its very tight but Yuvraj just pips it for me since odi's are won more by the bat then with the ball.

voted fo Afridi because i am bais when it comes to comparing afridi and other players...

but it could have been a very very close competation if it was 20/20..ODI Yuvraj will win considering that his batting is more reliable...

Can't decide who is the better play overall but I'd say Yuvraj is the better batsman and Afridi is the better bowler.

I second Amit's opinion there!

Yuvraj is a better batsman and Afridi is a better bowler...

I voted for Yuvraj Singh though!

Yuvraj easily for ODI's. He might be struggling in Tests but in ODI's he has been pretty good with the bat.

I dunno, Afridi's pretty damn consistent with the ball these days. Does the job week in week out, not too far off the best ODI spinner in the world.

I've gone for Afridi for his bowling too, the batting is just an occasional plus. He really does seem to churn out a tight and threatening spell of ten overs almost every time I see him.

Afridi with the ball last 3 years -

year 2007 15 14 129.0 1 603 19 3/20 31.73 4.67 40.7 0 0 view innings
year 2008 19 19 182.1 2 851 30 3/19 28.36 4.67 36.4 0 0 view innings
year 2009 13 13 113.2 4 513 17 6/38 30.17 4.52 40.0 0 1 view innings

That's good but not great.

Yuvraj with the bat last 5 years -

year 2005 26 25 5 839 120 41.95 1043 80.44 3 3 0 90 10 view innings
year 2006 22 21 5 849 107* 53.06 961 88.34 2 5 2 96 8 view innings
year 2007 36 33 5 1287 121 45.96 1438 89.49 1 9 1 119 33 view innings
year 2008 27 27 4 893 138* 38.82 891 100.22 2 3 2 82 31 view innings
year 2009 14 12 0 552 131 46.00 533 103.56 2 3 1 63 17 view innings

I'll give it to Yuvraj.

It's a really difficult choice, as Afridi's the better option on value added to his place, while Yuvraj is by far the better player on skills. Yuvraj with the bat, especially lately, is unquestionably better than Afridi with bat or ball. Both are evenly matched on the field. However, since Dhoni has preferred to use Yuvraj as a bowler, and Yuvraj is so inadequate with the ball, it should get his rating down a little. That should get him even with Afridi. In most teams, Yuvraj would make it clearly ahead of Afridi, although in the Indian team itself, there is a place for Afridi- but not so much ahead of Yuvraj.

No It doesn't get him even with Afridi. A batsman scoring at 45+ with a strikerate 100+ in the last year and can turn in a few overs is surely more important than a bowler who has an average of 30. As some one else said ODIs are a batsman's game. If Afridi can show some maturity and score runs along with his bowling he could get closer to Yuvraj but I find it tough to believe that after 12 years Afridi is going to change. At the moment he is more like Harbhajan bowls well and can have a wild slog across the line.

ODIs are a batsman's game, so doesn't that make a good bowler even more important? I'd rather have a really good spin bowler like a Saeed Ajmal or an Ajantha Mendis than a really good batsman like Yuvraj Singh or Mike Hussey.

That said, I reckon Yuvraj would win you more games on balance than Afridi would, as his batting is that good.

Afridi is a legend who won a MOM in a WC final and a MOS in a world cup tournament. Not much of a competition there really.

Afridi isn't a brilliant bowler by any strech of mind. If you talk about a Warne, Mcgrath I would accept but not Saeed Ajmal and Mendis. Let them play more matches.

You use the word legend very lightly. By your accord, Afridi is also a legend as he scored the fastest century and Yuvraj is a legend as he hit six sixes. One man of series performance in a T20 world cup doesn't make one a legend. Yuvraj had a Man of Series like performance (I don't know whether he won that award) in the T20 world cup in South Africa but that doesn't make him a legend.

No he didn't. Afridi did.

I think winning the MOM in a WC final and a MOS in a WC must count for more than scoring scoring centuries in random ODIs.

He had a man of series like performance. It is irrelevent whether Yuvraj won that award. Those contributions in the T20 world cup weren't just random odis. By your accord, Gary Gilmour is also a legend because of his performances in the world cup. As I said, you use the word legend very lightly.

We are talking about a player's worth. Gilmour did more than say Holding in a world cup but whom would you pick in your ODI XI first? Holding.

very valid points. But we'll have to agree to disagree.
I'd tell you to pull your head in but people seemed to be easily offended by this.
