With the cricket age we live in now they'll just continue to be T20 mercenaries. Which they probably would have done mostly anyway.

Could easily Afghanistan being banned from ICC events for this. Would support it tbh.
Yup. Allow Afghan cricketers to play in County cricket and T20 leagues (just like SA cricketers of 70s and 80s did)

Whatever it takes!!!
It seems to be a final bargaining tool at this point. Dunno if CA has only the interest of Afghan women cricketers in all this though. Just seems like another convenient scapegoat for them to use.

That's just rubbish. You can't be playing an official match against Afghanistan right now

I think they maybe waiting for ICC to cancel ACB's membership, which could well happen given the Taliban's stance on women's cricket alone, let alone the other stuff. But it may happen post this planned test which may well be why CA wants to throw it in their already. Otherwise, it maybe like a final attempt to see if the new Taliban Govt will allow women's cricket at least to let the men's team to continue playing. But yeah, I see a SA like ban coming sooner than later and honestly, it will be justified as much as it sucks for the current Afghan cricketers.

the ICC won't cancel Afghanistan's membership due to the Taliban. They entered the ICC under Taliban rule. But they probably, and should, lose full-member status if women can't play sport anymore.

Rashid and Mujeeb might have an eye on emigrating somewhere stable long-term, with the added bonus of potentially playing international cricket again. Depending on where they move, they'd have access to the domestic Big Bash money if they move here, or The Hundred and T20 blast money if they move to England. And they'd still be able to leave the country long enough to play IPL or another tournament as well, and collect a decent amount from first class and List A contracts.

But depending on how long they're allowed to be out of the country as per citizenship rules, it could still potentially cost them hundreds of thousands of dollars in other missed tournaments which could be a massive dissuasive factor.

Not sure how many of their blokes are good enough to be seriously eyeing off playing international cricket for another country though. Guys like Afghan, Nabi and Shazad are heading into their mid-30s and I'm not familiar with the other younger names.

Holy ****, look at this guy. Ibrahim Zadran, official age 19. Looks about 30, but let's assume he's still in his early 20s. 4 test matches, 3 half tons. Not a bad start.

Forgot about Hashmatullah Shahidi, official age 26. Pretty good record.

haha, they banned their own players for a year for rubbing a bit of sandpaper on a ball. i think not playing against a country run by terrorists was never a question.

This is all assuming they want to move. I don't know how they feel about their country but it's a big assumption that they would abandon it just on the off chance they might play some International cricket for another country that they have no loyalty or ties to.

Afghanistan seem to be very bad with the captaincy handling. They have lost the plot with how they’ve treated Asghar already and the chopping and changing with the captaincy. Who knows what would have happened in the World Cup if they hadn’t been ridiculous and had Naib as captain. Maybe Rashid is concerned that he’ll be told he has to pick certain players / tactics etc on top of no input for this squad . Really they need to play with their best captain, maybe Rashid is trying to force their hand back to Asghar, not sure about this time will tell
