A team of 11 spinners !

I left MacGill out purely due to the fact that I wanted more batting.

I was looking for batsmen who were spinners to fill those spots. Kumble, Murali and Warne take out the "specialist bowlers" positions, as I believe they are all superior to MacGill. Putting MacGill in for say, Dilshan, would result in having Giles bat #7, which wouldnt have been very practical. I guess he could have come in for Giles, but again, I was looking for batting when I picked Giles.

Not a bad team, huh. :)

Does anyone have an all time spinners ratings list ?

I would think Baghwad Chandrasekhar and Bishen Singh Bedi must be quite high on that list along with Jim Laker. Where would Lance Gibbs fit there ? Also Abdul Quadir / Clarrie Grimmett/ Tiger O Reilly etc where would they rate in such a list ?

*Lots of questions , no answers :D :D *

I do have access to these. Thats not what I was after .

What I was after was a ratings profile taking into consideration various factors as some cricket analysts and authors have done.

The ratings are based not on number of wickets or averages , but taking into consideration quality of wickets, away wickets vs home wickets etc. etc.

That IMO would be the ideal ratings analysis .

They both have a much better average home than away. It shows they are more adept to bowling in home conditions - not an entirely unnatural thing. Their over all average has a difference of less than 1. Add to that the fact that Kumble has played much more than MacGill has.

I dont see how it can be concluded that MacGill is greater than Kumble.

Here is a team of spinners (apologies for the liberty of including Barnes who did bowl fastish leg and off breaks) that can actually compete.

- Other than the keeper the others have atleast 100 test wickets - 2550 between the team !!
- They have at least one five wicket an innings haul - 140 between them. !
- The keeper has the best bowling analysis by a keeper and one oof the best career figures for any bowler !!! By virtue of his 4 for 19 in an innings against Australia, the only time he bowled in a test match !
- The team has 33 10 in a match hauls !

The top seven in the batting order have..
- over 25 thousand runs
- 45 centuries
- 85 fifties

The team has two who can effectively open the bowling Barnes(right arm) and Sobers(left arm) and bowl spin of a huge variey later.

In addition it has another eight of which there are

- three leg spinners (including the two greatest)
- three off spinners (including the greatest)
- two left arm spinners

And, of course, they have the trump card in the HON Alfred Lyttleton !! :p

PS Oh yes. They also are a great fielding side. A total of 587 test catches betwen them !!!

You are right. He should replace Carl Hooper.

Thanks. :)
No I am sorry, he has only 39 wickets in 156 test matches !! That is ONE wicket in FOR matches and just four overs per test.

He didnt bowl. Not enough. There are many with beter analysis but didnt bowl enough.

Yes. I suppose he should if we dilute the criteria of a 100 test wickets. Worrell had 69. He would greatly strengthen the batting and would be captain perhaps :)

Doesn't Worrell have a similar WPM ratio to Hopper, so he is as good bowler if not slightly better. Also Tony Grieg has more then 100 wickets...

Yes to both. :)

But if we have to include one of them, I would take Worrell.

Grieg would be another compromise since he did not bowl spin all the time. Mostly iy was medium pace stuff.

Okay. We will replace both Barnes and Hooper and bring in Worrell and Greig. This is more honest too :)

Aha, there is Frank Woolley with 83 wickets (with left arm spin) at 33.9, 3860 runs at 36.1 per innings and 64 catches in 64 matches ! And he kept wickets (played for it) for England in a test match !!

There is also GA Faulkner bowled leg spin for South Africa and took 82 wickets at 26 and scored 1754 runs at 40 and took 20 catches in 25 games. There are a few others if you take out the 100 wicket restrications.
