5th Test (The Oval) - 31st July to 4th August

England should do a few overs of spin here for sure. Give the quicks a break until after lunch. And you may get a wicket or two as well if India try to over attack. Bring the quicks back if there is a new batsman in.
yeah with the full over at the confident akash, spinners with an attacking field i reckon would be a chance of a breakthrough

This is what p**** me off most about the way we go about batting. 51 overs we batted first dig. They were basically on the field at the start then the end of the day. Scoring at 4-5 an over is all very well but we are killing our bowlers at times by not giving them a rest. Not helped by Woakes already being off and having Joverton and no (decent) spin option.
Would be surprised if we see Dawson again and he looked toothless in the last Test, but he’d at least have been able to hold up an end and give the seamers a rest. You definitely don’t go into a Test assuming that your experienced seamer who can bowl all day will get injured chasing a ball to the boundary, but you should always have a spinner, and as I say, I think Dawson would have been fine for number 7, especially with our supposed batting depth

Dawson would have been the classic 80's era pick. The 30 overs a day, hold an end type. See Miller, Emburey etc. County all-rounder who can do a job at 7-8 etc.

I don't think the England hierarchy fancy Dawson.

It's like the last test of a long tour where we've been mentally ground down, only we supposedly have fresh bowlers and it's at ****ing home.

I can't think of a bigger own goal than the Overton selection in recent times, and it's coupled with dropping our only front-line spinner after he couldn't win us a game on the flattest pitch I've seen here in years.

Then there's the drops. Doesn't bode well for Australia.

I don’t think England have holding up an end at the forefront of their minds at the moment, now after the last two games Rehan Ahmed has had recently it wouldn’t surprise me if he’s jumped past Dawson in the reckoning

Whatever it takes!!!
Akashdeep, after Duckett told him he cant get him out, has not only gone on and gotten him out (and looked like getting him out 3 or 4 times in that innings otherwise too) but has also now made more runs than Duckett, just to rub it in.

The arm on the shoulder feels needless when the response has been this emphatic.
