4th Test (Old Trafford, Manchester) - 23rd to 27th of July

IIRC Potts hasn't had a great season in county cricket, though to be fair there are not many other seamers who have.
His average is not great at all bit over 40, but that’s in the same ballpark as Overton (albeit he's only played 2 games, but he got picked in the squad for the first two Tests over Potts) and Dawson (who admittedly is a spinner)

Just seen that Pant is clear to keep tomorrow, how does this affect the team selection? Who comes in for Reddy, Sai Sudharsan or Jurel as a pure batter?

Slight aside to selection stuff, but all this talk about England's batting depth with Archer at 11... I've never seen anything from him with the bat to suggest this isn't an entirely appropriate position for him. Whatever his FC average might be, he's always look a test rabbit to me.

If he were to re-injure that finger, would he be allowed a replacement sub this time? I'd like to think England would say No, you came in with that injury, that's the risk you took.

Would've liked to see more of Sudharshan on this tour if fit. He looked quite fluid at the crease in the first game. Nair's been given a fair run and hasn't shown enough promise to persist with especially at his age.

Whatever it takes!!!

That is the rule, moano. If a player sustains an injury due to contact with the ball or some other accident while in play, its considered an external injury for which you get a specialist substitute and you get to bat at your normal position, if you choose to do so.

If its a soft wear and tear type injury or an injury going into the game, its considered an internal injury and rules like having to field for the time you were out of the field etc applies and your batting position is also impacted.

And if you would quit moaning and watch what actually happened, you would have seen its the same rule they applied for Bashir's injury as well. He literally came into the field only to bowl.

India essentially played with 12, a keeper batsman who didn't have to keep (and still lost), England largely had 10 (a spinner who could barely bowl).

But yeah, lets keep comparing apples with pears.

Why not be happy you can beat a 12-man team with 10 guys? If anything Pant when able to keep is talismanic for India. Eng should hope he cops another blow and Jurel shows up again.
