His whole computer actually.

He made one such prediction, which came badly wrong.

Then he disappeared for a long time...

I voted Clark from memory. People have forgotton SA and how gun he was there. I doubt the selectors have forgotten and I'm almost sure they will select him for the first test at least. However, I have been wrong more often than not.

Also he was in the ad. You can't put him in the ad and then not let him play. That's not how things work.

If Symonds plays a single Ashes Test I'll eat my keyboard.
Yeah, not really being serious. 8-) If Watson was injured however, you may well find yourself reaching for the tomato sauce to help get those keys down...

Wtf, he's playing!?!

I know he's in the squad, but I don't think they'll pick him. There's a very real chance that they might go with five bowlers, especially if the pitch is flat. Hopefully, then Watson will be fit for the fourth Test and Symonds won't play.

Interesting that he's only an injury away from the Test side at this point, especially considering his lackluster performances in Tests so far.

Nope, he's almost a certain starter as a band-aid number 6 till Watson comes back. If he doesn't play I'll eat my keyboard.

But only one injury away from a Test recall? There's no one else better to fill in at number 6? If anything it just shows how commited Australia have become in trying to find an allrounder, if they're willing to pick Symonds over a specialist batsman, especially considering Symonds is little better than a partimer in Tests.

They picked a specialist bat over Symonds when their all-rounder option was injured for the first and second tests, so you're wrong there.

I've got a feeling Voges will play. Reckon he'll do better than Symonds anyway.

I think the selectors have realised they need someone to bowl a few overs. I have little doubt that, if selected, Voges will bowl a bit.

But now the only thing that has changed is that they have lost a specialist bat in Martyn, and they're bringing in the crap allrounder Symonds. Would have thought there would have been a better specialist bat option to fill in for another specialist bat, but Australia are showing their dedication to this allrounder experiment by picking Symonds.

Nah, they're showing that they feel as though Symonds has more to offer in test matches with the bat that he's shown, and want to give him another go. The bowling just comes in handy for a few tidy overs at one end while the other bowlers rest. Can see why they'd want that with the ridiculous temperatures in Perth and the airport tarmac they're calling a "pitch" at the WACA.

I'm pretty sure his bowling does enter into it to a significant degree. Symonds took a bunch of wickets at the WACA a few weeks ago with his offies, and given the amount Clarke bowled in the last test they'll be looking to bowl him a lot. Hell, some of the games last year he bowled just as much as the specialist bowlers. He's definitely the alternative to Watson, not the alternative to say Jaques or Birt.
