Most of the time one of the 3 has been injured so they've not had to make that choice that as often as you'd think. And despite my post, ideally we'd just have a gun specialist batsman at number 6 who'd establish his place in the team, but he doesnt exist.

India's pace bowling stocks are so good that we should definitely play 3 quicks + Jadeja + Pandya when conditions merit it. Jadeja will work just fine behind them (look at Lyon with the Aus pace attack) and Ashwin's batting has fallen away a lot, he should be relegated to 9.

If conditions suit spin, play Ashwin + 2 quicks and bat Jadeja above Pandya, to reduce the latter's batting load as he's now the 3rd quick.

Im quickly coming to the conclusion that Jadeja is flat out undroppable regardless of conditions. He's been consistently good with the bat for almost 3 years now to the extent where I trust him to make a decent contribution more than anyone apart from Kohli/Rahane/Chepu. **** team configuration considerations, I think he should be treated as the incumbent instead of being dropped for the mythical "extra batsman" who has always been a worse batsman than him. He has too much value to be left out as frequently as he is.
Yeah. He has improved leaps and bounds in batting that he is a fix at 6 or 7 really. And a gun fielder. Not to mention the small matter of getting to relieve the pacers with just over 200 test wickets to his name.

The way he dealt with the 2nd new ball was a lesson to many top order batsmen.hardly played a false stroke.

With a first class batting average near 50 and three triple ****ing hundreds, and a batting average of 50 I think Jadeja now justifies a spot at 6 or 7 as a specialist batsman. Might consider Vihary to open if Agarwal continues to fail which will facilitate someone like Pandya to come in if he can bowl as well.

Kohli
Rahane
Jadeja
Pant
Pandya
Ashwin
Bumrah
Siraj

I still think Rahane has played probably the best innings of his life and would not likely emulate any of this. I would like KL to come in his stead. And the ever optimist in me makes me believe Vihary will go on to have a decent career opening for us.

I would just open with Ashwin (whoever else plays there scores 10-15 runs at max anyways). Ishant and Shami walk into the team once they are back and Siraj as the backup.

This will be a gun overseas team. Hope Pandya retains the faith.

Ashwin's batting job is to just blunt the new ball for 10-12 overs and not expose middle order to new ball early. Any runs scored is a lottery.
Ishant at #9 will ensure Jadeja's batting would not be wasted.

I'd love to see this for the sheer sight of Ashwin running off to the dressing room to pad up after taking the last wicket.

Ravi jadeja is the epitome of mediocrity outside the subcontinent
Jadeja in fact walks into the current Aussie team. Based on the evidence of last 3 years, probably as good as Lyon with the ball outside subcontinent and better than any batsman not named Smith and Labushagne. Possibly a better fielder than any one in that team as well.

Aus fans should spend more time worrying about their crocked unit instead of running down opponents who're playing well atm. Looks very ignorant.
