Don't know why you say that as Viv built his reputation at # 3 during this era (and he has 3398 @ 59.61 at # 3).

btw, at # 4 he had 1145 @ 44.03 and at # 5 he had 900 @ 50.00

But in a team of all time players, he would be better at #5. In his team, he was fine at 3. But the #3 competition isn't an all time competition, so he can still bat at #3 for this team.

Richards is going to win this easily. I've voted for Amarnath, the VVS Laxman of the eighties. Very good against the run of the mill teams, and a God against the best of his era. Hope this gets him into the poll for #4. I'd really like him to make the team.

very difficult to look beyond the master blaster. rohan kanhai is a very distant second. then gower and chappell. and thats it. but viv has no serious competition.

Gower didn't bat regularly at Number 3, and Graham Yallop , be serious. I assume that this non-descript collection were put against Viv knowing that he would win anyway and the rest of the real quality players will be competing for Numbers 4 and 5.

Yes, these are the best # 3's that meet the selection criteria of aver > 40 and yes, Gower batted at # 3 more times than any other position during the 1966-85 period in question.
