2nd ODI ATXI

Whatever it takes!!!
MOTM is decided by commentators
Actually not for most home games in India till the late noughties. And almost all games in Sharjah in that period. I remember very well the MotM adjudicator was often mentioned separately in the presentation ceremonies by Ravi Shastri back then.

Also keep in mind, MOM awards have never had consistent criteria, they change from game to game and person to person. It's just a quick choice, not an in depth statistical analysis.
Good. That's why they are good alternative to "in depth statistical analysis" (aren't we close to getting sick of misguided statistical analyses?)

However MoM is not enough. World cup 2003 had a great system where for each game top 3 players were identified who received 3, 2, 1 points. Players with most points at the end won player of the tournament. I wish this is formalized and officially recorded. Will be a great way to assess worth of cricketers over their careers.

Kallis might not be an ATG in ODI cricket but he's definitely borderline considering his overall contribution.

Bowled 140 and pretty much everyone who faced him says that he bowled a heavy ball, meaning it was quite difficult to smash him and he would prosper in the modern era as a bowler for sure.

Regarding his batting, you can basically consider Williamson in ODIs as a modern day Kallis and I don't think that Williamson is irrelevant in modern day setup(with his 82 str rate) let alone in 1990s.

Williamson shares more in common with the ruthless accumulators of the ODI golden age than with Kallis imo.

Kallis was always more mechanical and structural with his pacing, probably more of a Clarke or Taylor type.

As for Kallis, he deserves ODI props at least for one of the greatest innings-break team talks in limited overs history, after Australia had made 434 at Jo'burg in 2006:

"The bowlers have a done a good job, this is a 450 wicket - I think they're 15 runs short."
He wasn’t an ATG mathematician that’s for sure
