everyone’s confident until an Andy Roberts bouncer whizzes past you

thankfully we are playing the illustrious Bryson care and Jamie Overton
Carse won a series for England literally last december, he might be a new one who is just starting his career but doesn't deserve to be put down just yet.

Huh. I'd have guessed it was closer to a 50/50 split between those with antecedents in India and those with theirs in Pakistan in Brum.
Wikipedia claims that used to be true in the 80s and 90s, but now it's closer to 80/20.

I think the only British city in which the Indian demo is the biggest minority is Leicester. Which probably adds to Headingley attendees in the away end, since the East Mids doesn't have a test this year and Leeds is closer and cheaper than London.

It has honestly had an effect in distancing me from the tests this year and last. I'm surprised it seems to matter, but the 2008-2010 period where those two were establishing themselves as *the* attack were the years I was going from casual to anorak on cricket, so it feels oddly personal.

It doesn't help that, as a man in his mid thirties, a hypothetical side full of players whose ages I identify with is just beginning to verge from 'on the old side' into 'dilapidated'. Give me five years and I expect I'll be used to it.

I think the whole "it'll be like a home game for India" is baloney anyway.

1. Only 9% of Leeds is Asian, so about half that will be Indian.
2. Kohli and Rohit have pulled out since tickets were released, I bet a load have gone onto resale on the back of that.
3. This is not exactly the strongest Test side India have ever sent to England.
4. It's a Test, we know Indians prefer limited overs stuff these days.
5. It's a Test, we know English fans fill it up for this format.

By 3pm when the beer has started having an effect, we'll know exactly which team are at home.

bullshit Indians prefer limited overs and crowd of I had to guess will be 60-70% Indian. These days in London it’s Indians who have the money and there’s a big crowd on the way up based on folks I know

That and the wider West Yorkshire area mainly being those of Pakistani and Bangladeshi origin.

Have you been to an England/India Test in England? It'll be far more in the region of 90% English.

All I can think about is that wonderful indian food restaurant that was at Hyde Park in the mid-noughties. Is it still open?

Given the capacity of English grounds, more than half the crowd likely to be Indian, even outside London.

Forget about Indo Pakistani ratios. Raw numbers are still enough. West Yorkshire has more than 60,000 ethnic Indians. At least 10% of those will turn up. Then there are many people who will travel from other parts of the country. Note that Headingly cricket ground only has a capacity of around 18,000.

Meanwhile, West Midlands county has more than 225,000 ethnically Indians, while Edgbaston cricket ground only has a capacity of 25,000. Easy to imagine majority of crowd being Indian.

You're going to have to imagine it because it won't happen. When Jerusalem plays at the start of the day, you'll soon see the numbers. I was at Trent Bridge in 2021, Kohli was playing, England were rubbish, it was still 90% English.

I recall India fans being at the London grounds in big numbers in the past, but I don't recall them being quite so numerous elsewhere, even at Trent Bridge in 2011, where that is relatively close to the large East Midlands community.

For starters, members of the relevant counties will buy up tickets in their droves, and then a fair number of England test match loyalists will buy up too.
