I'd be trying to sim these live on the CWBCC Broadcasting service (cwbcc1 @ hotmail dot com). The time for the sim to begin is tentatively 8am my time on the 11th. That would be 1pm GMT and 10pm in Sydney.

Does that mean you are doing the games for the 8th, 9th & 11th all on the one day? Or is this just for the first regular season game?

Cricket Web Black

The second powerhouse of Season 8, Cricket Web Black will field a much different team this season. With several players not re-signed on the basis of inactivity, Neil Pickup has his work cut out for him if he is to achieve the same level of success.

The batting has a fairly reliable look, with David Kearsley and Chris Butler the centrepieces. Both men played for the CW XI in the offseason, so they’ll be looking to apply that experience to domestic cricket. Blackman, Josy and Jones also have huge parts to play.

Josy returns to the Dev League after a period of Austrian cricket. He will, like Langley for Red, be tested as to his competence with the bat after such time out of the system. Still, he is an experienced presence and thus important to Black’s success.

Alex Blackman and Simon Jones are set to play their sophomore years. Blackman made a good impression in Season 8, playing maturely for a solid opening to his career. Jones has been less tried, and thus has even more to prove this time around.

The battle for the gloves should be very interesting. Whilst Darren Dubb-Lynch was impressive with bat and gloves in Season 8, the credentials of Ash Chaulk surely cannot be ignored. Not only has Chaulk played for the XI, but a record 145 FC runs short of 3000 places him as a very valuable player. Still, Chaulk is yet to achieve his potential in FC cricket average-wise, which allows Dubb-Lynch to closely contest for playing time.

Mike Wilson – the perceived talisman of Black cricket. Wilson played with careless aggression and healthy arrogance throughout Season 8 and thus managed to put together a very impressive debut record. He was then selected to the ‘A’ team, and proceeded to struggle on the subcontinent. Whether or not he can bounce back to his rookie form will almost define how far Black goes in Season 9 (according to the fans).

The underestimated allrounder of CW Black, Callum Thompson may not get the press of Wilson, but he’s still a fine prospect. More than 1000 FC runs and 60 FC wickets in his rookie year was a good platform for the fast-bowling allrounder. The hope is that he can push on and potentially swing some focus away from the Wilson show due his own heroics. Surely it will be beneficial for Black if he does.

New faces almost define the Black bowling attack. Gareth Gooljar settles into his first season at CW Black, having been treated poorly at the various other clubs he has played for. Always a persistent legspinner, Gooljar has a far better record in his limited opportunity than he is given credit for. Hopefully he finally gets the time to shine at Black.

With Gooljar are rookies Cricketwiz and Gough. Both present fast-medium bowling that will be under close scrutiny this season, as the only specialist seam support for the accomplished Chris Broadbent. Holding the attack together in Black vice-captain and ‘A’ team skipper Dave Richards.

Richards’ economical bowling and cool presence on the field has allowed him to snare 159 FC wickets. More than simply the “Gilo” of the attack, Richards will be the bowling as well as team leader when Pickup is absent.

Pickup himself will be crucial in the times that he plays for Black. He is, indeed, the only proven world class bowler and the most accomplished in CW history. Such credentials surely add pressure for him to carry his team during Season 9, but Neil Pickup has proven that he can cope with pressure. Whether he does it this time will be interesting.

Daily Blast 5D Prediction: Pride fuels a mixed bag – the squad doesn’t look as strong as it did last season, but the pride and reputation of Black will push the players to match the glory days of old.

Daily Blast 5D Batsman Pick: David Kearsley – not yet an international regular, as Butler is, Kearsley may find himself as the leader of the Black batting. The pressure is on, but Kearsley’s batting for the ‘A’ team in the offseason would suggest that he’s ready for it.

Daily Blast 5D Bowler Pick: Dave Richards – always the solid performer, Dave Richards will be required to take his game to a whole new level. Hardened by his surprise inclusion in the Test squad in India, there’s a lot to prove.

Daily Blast Point of Interest: The fortunes of Black in general.

Ok, sweet. Just so I'm clear...So the warm up games will be run on their actual dates, so we will get a chance to look at results and adjust sides accordingly?

Captain's Comment: They're full strength, so we are too. Incidentally, I'll be refusing to refer to one player by a stupid name, so he will be christened alternatively with a random name generator unless he decides to follow the same rules as the other 63 of us. He's got two days.

Extremely proud of the boys for taking on a test-level side and succeeding. A huge win on our first ever game together, and we did it in style. A lot of positives out of that game, but we can't expect things to go our way all the time, and there are things that we'll still need to sharpen up on while we're at it. But an absolutely perfect start for our team, and I look forward to more of the same throughout the season. Good stuff! Mamesh, Hancock, myself, Jasotharan and Nayak all making half centuries (shame Mamesh and Nayak weren't able to make it to 100, they both deserved it) really set us up for this game, and Wright lead by example with good support - all five bowlers used were able to dismiss a batsman. I won't get ahead of myself or let the team do similar just yet, but I have to say it - I'm thrilled with our team's performance, absolutely thrilled. I never dreamed we'd do so well in our first game.

Let's build on this, lads. We've still got a lot to work on, so let's be sure to keep our heads level and concentrate on the next game. The "unknown" aspect of our team won't last forever.

EDIT: Also, congrats to my good friend Resha for managing a half century on her debut for the Greens. Keep it up, but don't expect us Colts to make life easy for you. ;)

Bit of a disappointment to lose that one. I think as expected our batting was a bit light with that team, and we couldn't set up a big enough target in the end. Excellent work by Popat and Crampton with the bat though, to bat almost all of day 3 in those conditions from Crampton was great. And Nath was a menace with the ball in the first innings.
