    Harold Larwood vs Shoaib Akhtar

Both were menacing fast bowlers. Harwood was quicker and more effective. Tough to compare due to the differences in era. But just for the heck of it, who do you think was better?

Kevin Pietersen vs Joe Root vs Cook

Based on pure impact/match-winning ability, who would you rather pick in your team?

A Bowling Lineup For Damage Control

Let's say a test match is being played on a wicket that is flat and high scores are a certainty. You have to select a bowling lineup with guys who can either bowling tight to dry up the runs or bowl crazy variations to just disturb the batsman's rhythm, who would you choose? The main goal would...

Average/Good players who were better than everybody else in "one" skill/area.

The drift on Nathan Hauritz' deliveries, simply beautiful, I haven't seen anyone get more drift. Venkatesh Prasad's leg cutters, I think they were extremely deceptive and he didn't play in an era where bowlers were creative enough to find different ways to overcome their weaknesses.

Worst thing to happen during an international cricket game?

Just came across this video, didn't hear about it before. And this is wrong on so many levels:wacko: For me, this is the absolute worst, worse than anything that has happened before or will happen in future...

    Most elegant batsmen/bowlers?

Depending on their stroke-play, bowling-action, or whatever reason, pick a bowler and a batsman that you find the most pleasing to watch. Again, let's stick to just two players. I'll go with: 1. Matthew Hoggard - his bowling-action, and the glorious out-swingers he could bowl was a true...

In the right place at the right time!

Name some individuals in cricket who got a lot of success "on paper", but that doesn't reflect how good/bad they were because of XYZ reasons. For e.g. John Buchanan, I don't know how good he was, but the Aussie team he coached was full of rockstars. The team was good enough to do well without...

What are some of the greatest cricket stories?

I'll name a few. Nathan Lyon's journey - from being curator to becoming the lead spin bowler of Australia. Another thing that comes to my mind is Bradman's average(although it's technically not a "story"), it's such a magical number. I prefer "reading" about Bradman, I don't watch any of the...

The most weird posts on CricketWeb?

For me, it was a screenshot of some weird poem(from a CW user) that a friend had sent me. And I am sure it was on Cricketweb because of the layout and overall color scheme. Can't find it anymore, and generally I come across very knowledgable posters here. But it would be interesting to find and...

New/fairly unknown player you are rooting for!

What are some up and coming players you are following/enjoy watching. I will go ahead and name Maheesh Theekshana from Sri Lanka. Another "mystery spinner" from SL who bowls quite a few variations between speeds of 80-100 kmph. I don't remember where I saw him bowl the first time, but he was...

Bowlers who looked innocuous, but were actually effective!

Some bowlers don't look like they are difficult to face for the batsmen but their numbers tell a completely different story. For e.g. Clint McKay in ODIs. When you think of Aussie pace bowlers, you think of pace, bounce and pure aggression. McKay was the total opposite of that, he didn't bowl...

Intimidatory Bowling warnings, what are the rules?

I have seen bits and pieces of the first 4 days and the entire last day, I was surprised by Oxenford warning Shardul Thakur for "intimidatory bowling" when he bowled a few short balls to Pat Cummins who is not that bad with the bat. But he gave a free pass to the Aussie bowlers, particularly...

How do you rate players like VVS Laxman?

By players "like" Laxman, I mean the ones who deliver more often in unfavourable conditions and crunch situations and don't make the most of their opportunities in average games. Laxman's name doesn't even come up when people pick India's ATG Test XI, but his best performances have always come...

If you can bowl just 2 types of deliveries in test matches, what would they be?

As a right arm pace bowler, I would pick the out swinger and leg cutter. So much can be done with these two deliveries if you know how to create the correct angles to trouble the batsmen. I wouldn't go for the in-swinger because you have to be super accurate to get it right and the room for...
