My previous post does differentiate between swing in the air (letting it roll out gently) and getting movement and bounce off the track (snapping the wrists). For more detailed info on grips and stuff, check out these links - Cricket Articles. Enjoy, kanna! :)

Fair point. But it was a fair distance outside leg. Perhaps the non-striker could have known that with some certainty. Always a difficult punt though, especially when the man in the best position makes the wrong decision. :)

As poor as the umpire's decision was, I can have some measure of understanding for Powell not reviewing it. The batsman sometimes isn't exactly sure where the ball has pitched and maybe the youngster didn't want to waste a review on himself. The non-striker should have brought it to his notice.

And he strikes first ball! Joy to watch, this lad.

I think the track was a big factor in giving the new ball to Beer. Here's Pattinson coming on as I type.

Robin, do you still frequent these forums? Remember your Atherton anecdote that you narrated a few months back and your recollections of "Fiery" Fred. Would be a joy to interact more with you on the forums, sir. Hope you consider a comeback!

Ah! Tough one there for the little guy. Not many umpires would have given that.

Michael Beer opening the bowling for a nation that gave us Lindwall, Davidson, Miller, Lillee, Thomson, McGrath and Gillespie? I think I've seen everything now!

    Shaun Pollock

How did you come to that conclusion, friend? What may be boring for some people may really tickle someone else's fancy. Between you and I, there are very few things I enjoyed in cricket as much as the visual experience of seeing Shaun Pollock bowl. Coming in with the shining red cherry, landing...

Thanks, man! I quite enjoy your posts too. Been an admirer or Philander since his first test; the first ball tbh. In fact the second innings (47 all out) was when I switched to this avatar :-)

Why can't India produce great fast bowlers like Pakistan?

That explains the insufficient footwork while batting. Welagedara to testify!

Caught close-in pushing at the off-spinner. Who would have thought?

Impact outside off? This is one case where it looks plumb to the eye, but the HawkEye says otherwise. I know which one I'd trust!

Inzamam the best player of quicks after viv?

Fair call, if time to play pure pace is your merit criterion. At top level cricket, it's very seldom up-and-down raw pace that batsmen are expected to contend with. Pre-2007 Ponting is the best player of pace I've seen live. Wonderful eyes, fearless, lightning reflexes and a guy who could...

CW Top 50 Cricketers of All Time - 2nd Edition

 I asked my girl (who knows a fair bit about cricket) and she picked Imran Khan, Brett Lee, ABdeV, Zaheer Khan and Shane Watson. On reflection, I am beginning to suspect that cricket skills weren't her only considerations!

    Shaun Pollock

I'm quite pleased too, mate..Back amongst my own! In part, I agree. He was a victim of his own high standards in the 90s. But, I saw most of South African tests in the 2001 to 2004 period, and the lack of his bowling venom was just glaringly apparent. His customary accuracy and...

Why can't India produce great fast bowlers like Pakistan?

Pretty much so. My comment was just a response to BB on that specific point. By and large, I do believe the visual impact of seeing an Imran charge in to bowl covered greater base than Fazal's or Khan Mohd's exploits. And that has less to do with the skills of each man, but more to do with...

Why can't India produce great fast bowlers like Pakistan?

If undivided India is considered, I'd say Mohammad Nissar (who later adopted Pakistan) and Amar Singh were as good as, if not superior to Kapil Dev.
