West Indies vs Pakistan in UAE 2016

Pakistan were clearly paying attention to England's batting masterclass from the other day. If Windies win this game the Test cricketing world must surely have turned upside down.

cricketers that you don't like for no reason

Ishant Sharma. It seems preposterous that he should actually celebrate taking a wicket in anything but the most humble manner.

You're correct: a 'developing side' has every right to throw its wickets away and give the appearance of wanting to be anywhere but the playing field. England made South Africa look a lot worse than they are? Perhaps England have sought to make Rabada look a lot better than he is in turn.

People actually paid money to watch this capitulation. When England do poor they really do grovel.

Shame on England for this lily-livered surrender. Each Test match should be like a series in itself, not something you just approach half-heartedly.

Yup, the settled batting line-up of Strauss, Cook, Trott, Pietersen, Bell, Collingwood and Prior with each averaging over 40 does look like a little golden age. They never beat South Africa though.

Times have changed for the better then. The dead rubber in a major series used to be the only game England would win.

    Retirements That Hurt

West Indies lost Greenidge, Richards, Marshall and Dujon pretty much in one go around 1991. They were all past their prime but there weren't any better replacements.

It would have been more in true England style to be 10/3 and then reach the target without further loss but maximising the anxiety of their supporters.

I couldn't imagine the Australians being in quite such a good mood in a similar situation. It would be all sullen body language and grumbling, and quite rightly so.

There are a lot of smiles amongst the South African players for a team who are being humiliated at home in front of a full house. Curious.

Yawn. This toss is a swizz.

It's a black mark for a commentator that refers to someone as "a good young player" when that player will actually be turning 30 in a few months, debuted in 2010 and has played 40 Test matches.

    All-rounders with equal bowling/batting skill?

Jesse Ryder averages 45 with the bat and 28 with the ball in first class cricket. A shame he and New Zealand seem to have given up on each other.

Is bowling really fast (90mph and over) natural or a learned skill?

Australia have a good set of pace bowlers right now but I think only Starc regularly reaches and exceeds 90mph. Johnson bowled at a sustained high pace during the last Ashes to devastating effect and it's what he'll always be remembered for, but he's been dropping off since then. Hazlewood...

Favourite english batsmen from the dark age of english cricket? (mid 90s-00s)

Butcher was a curious one: he could play an all-time great innings against an all-time great attack but on other occasions would frequently chuck it away when set against the lesser sides. His average reflects his inconsistency. Thorpe was a fine player and one of the few England players of the...
