NZ Test Match Summer News and Thoughts

A cautionary tale for any advocate of the five bowler theory : 2nd Test: Australia v New Zealand at Hobart, Nov 26-29, 1993 | Cricket Scorecard | ESPN Cricinfo Were the selectors drunk when they picked that team?? More seriously, if you give up a batsman to play a bowler you concede 40 runs...

NZ Test Match Summer News and Thoughts

    a) we've only been playing tests for about 80 years, b) NZ have tried four seam bowlers before a bit, with mixed results c) if watson were to give up bowling permanently, would that be your prescription for the australian side?

NZ Test Match Summer News and Thoughts

New problem : should you run the pool on "how long till jesse gets injured" in terms of overs, sessions or days? Whole matches would be wildly optimistic.

NZ Test Match Summer News and Thoughts

Do you think the selectors will treat the Zimbabwe as a trial match for the South Africa series, as Glenn Turner seems to be suggesting? Cricket | Best players not necessarily in Black... | Stuff.co.nz I can't imagine any selectors not picking Vettori. But I do think they might play four...

Hussey's averaging about 8 in his last five tests... with the ball! He's your go-to wicket-taker.

Unfortunately we don't have 9 guys waiting in the wings who are better than these guys. (I don't actually disagree with any of your points, though.)

NZ have a fairly woeful record defending 250-ish (or higher) totals in the fourth innings. The only time they've done it in my memory was vs Pakistan at Dunedin. A certain Shane Bond was bowling that day.

Well he was a lot closer to nicking them than middling them.... My point is that if he gets out to one of those shots and there's a debate about whether he's got the qualities of a test opener, and whether he should be playing those sorts of shots on this sort of wicket. I accept he's looking...

I haven't seen a pitch this green since a drop-in track at Lancaster Park where England lost two wickets in the first over to Chris Cairns. Same pitch where Thorpe and Flintoff added 300 on day 3, before Nathan Astle scored 200 in 153 balls on day 4. Any chance this one will turn out similar?
