Kallis vs Sobers, Donald vs Steyn, Trott vs Pollock

I don't think Kallis's bowling average will go anywhere but up if he keeps playing for three more years.

Kallis vs Sobers, Donald vs Steyn, Trott vs Pollock

I think in this regard he was helped by being very much a front line bowler in one-day cricket, and there was/is of course so much one-day cricket. In that form of the game he often bowled in quite an attacking mode, so it didn't damage him too much. (Did he open the bowling for a time in ODIs...

Kallis vs Sobers, Donald vs Steyn, Trott vs Pollock

Completely agree. For what it's worth on the less-debated elements of the original post, Pollock RG was a true great of the game. Donald still beats Steyn - his average is a point lower isn't it? Now... Kallis vs Sobers. I'm a kiwi/Brit and have seen Kallis do well against NZ a few times...

    ***Official*** India in Australia 2011/12

Haddin deliberately not laying a glove on that one so it doesn't go down as a chance missed?

Does anyone know if he's a complete d*ckhead off the field as well, or is it just when he gets on it?

*** Official New Zealand Domestic Cricket 2011/2012 ***

Thanks for those scorecards. Greg Hay is still around? I assumed he must have gone overseas or died or something. First class average 42. One day average 48 20/20 figures 37 @ SR of 129. Pretty impressive for a guy who can't make the CD first eleven.

How do you solve a problem like Jesse Ryder?

FFS the guy gets paid a decent salary to play cricket. Part of the requirement of which is to be reasonably fit, you'd think. You could argue that he's whatever number he is on the NZC 1-20 pay scale in part because he was expected to be able to bowl, which he currently isn't fit enough to do...

    ***Official*** India in Australia 2011/12

Congrats Aussies, kept playing hard for four days. Johnson's absence has allowed the others to bowl in a pack. Pattinson looks the real deal, and I may even change his description in my own records from "bowler" to "all rounder". Cowan looks a proper test opener, Warner will do better than he...

Laxman looked pretty awful there. Total runs in the whole series - plus/minus 100?

    ***Official*** India in Australia 2011/12

Given the muted appeal, I doubt the Indians would have DRSed the lbw not out. And now Hussey's gone, so maybe it won't matter. Pre-series I didn't think Zak would be a factor, but he looks ok fitness-wise, and while he's there I don't think many Aussie batters are going to get comfortable.

The commentators keep going on about Cowan leaving the ball. Is he really that slow a batsman? Like, Tavare slow? Or does he just play out an hour or so and then bat "normally"?

    Doug Bracewell Discussion

I was really impressed with his variety and control on that last afternoon. The inswinger (to a left hander) to get Starc and the inducker (to a right hander) to clean up Lyon were superb balls in the circumstances. He managed to vary his deliveries without losing control, unlike Southee who...

    *Official* Pakistan in Bangladesh 2011

LBW was 50-50, might have just clipped the bails. The sort of decision certain teams or certain batsmen tend to have go in their favour. Tamim's was ludicrous, he was no where near it... pity as he'd played some lovely shots before that.

NZ Test Match Summer News and Thoughts

I see Zimbabwe are playing in a 3-day warm up match vs a "NZ xi" in Gisborne. It's probably too late for it to be used as a trial for the test which starts three days after this match finishes. Can folk name the eleven they'd like to see in the NZ xi side? Flynn Guptill Williamson Ryder...

NZ Test Match Summer News and Thoughts

And he can bat at 8, allowing a 6-7-8 of Vettori-Keeper-Astle... I agree, I imagine the selectors have their fingers crossed hoping he has a good a late season as he did last year.

NZ Test Match Summer News and Thoughts

Yeah, we've probably done the shape of the side to death... is there anyone else outside the current set-up who we think might make a contribution by the end of the South Africa series or next winter? A keeper is an obvious one. Wagner, Flynn, anyone else?
