*Official* New Zealand in England 2015

And while I'm on my hobby horse, why waste all those minutes checking no-balls and hitting bat - how about you look to see if it can be given out based on where it hits and where it's going. if those are out, check for the bat and the no-ball. I know if it's a no-ball or he's hit it you don't...

*Official* New Zealand in England 2015

Genuinely don't understand the umpire's call on hitting in line. It's either hit him in line or it hasn't! The hitting the stumps thing I get, there's a margin of error to consider. But if the law says any part of the ball hits in line, then that should be out. If the law says all the ball...

*Official* New Zealand in England 2015

Ok, it's 20 minutes before tea and NZ have bowled 21 overs. Here's a revolutionary thought...you win the toss and put the opposition in. Maybe just maybe you should try to bowl as many balls as possible at the opposition in the morning before the pitch gets sun on it and the atmosphere is...

    The LBW Umpire Referral Flaw

My gripes with the system : Do the laws state what they mean by "pitching outside leg stump" or "hitting in line with stumps"? I doubt the pre-DRS law did - was it "if any part of the ball pitches outside leg it can't be lbw", or "if all of the ball pitches outside leg...", ie if any part...

    Tall Timber

Are you after just tall players or good tall players. Two metre Peter if the former. Clive Lloyd if the latter. Garner and Ambrose certain starters. Bruce Reid ? Tony Greig a certain number 6. You might struggle to find a keeper.... Wayne Phillips was pretty tall I think.

***Official*** England in West Indies 2015

Agree. Mark Craig was hardly terrifying first class teams in NZ when he was plucked from nowhere to be a front-line spinner, and he went and took 8 wickets on debut at Kingston. Seriously average off-spinners can do ok over there.

    New Rain Interrupted Idea

Just pondering the NZ - SA semi-final... what do posters think of this idea? With 14 overs to be lost after South Africa had batted 38 overs before the rain.... how about... rather than play 43-vs-43 overs, why not let the team batting first bat out their 50 overs, then set the team batting...

1st Semi Final - New Zealand v South Africa (24th March)

An astonishing mix of brilliance and bumbling in the field : THREE run-outs - Roussow could have lobbed it in and de Villiers had so much time to get Anderson that he didn't need to be hurtling to the stumps, then de Kock gets Elliot with a clean take, then de Villiers missing from short...

Best XI with no century or 5w haul to their name

Barry. He was a stalwart Cantab opener who got appreciably better as he got older. Probably a bit unlucky not to get a test or two actually (he ended with a higher first class average than Terry Jarvis, who played 13 tests, for instance). But his selection for the one day team was a bit...

    33rd Match - England v Bangladesh (9th March)

Is there just a rule that the highest scoring batsman on the winning team gets the MOM award? Mushiqur's innings was better and he held a few catches, Rubel and Mashrafe were awesome with the ball... nothing wrong with Mahmudullah obviously but...

It was an ok line and length but I don't know why he nicked it.... just nerves, tightened up a bit? Just a sign no-one's relaxed.

    30th Match - Ireland v ZImbabwe (7th March 2015)

God, the bloke at the other end has hit 18 off 5 balls... maybe just push a single somewhere rather than try to win it yourself?

    First week thoughts

I'm getting bored of seeing 330+ scores in ODIs. The second innings is pretty much a waste of time after that. Of course Ireland vs Windies shows teams do occasionally chase down 300+ scores, but still. Give me 170-9 plays 171-8 off 48.5 any day of the week. I want each run to matter.
