CW Worst 15 Cricketers of All Time - The Results

Kayes has gone from being in the 15 worst players of all time thread to being a contender in any All Time Bangladesh first xi thread. Admittedly, not that huge a step...

***Official*** Australia in the West Indies 2015

Have Roach and Taylor ever bowled well in the same test match? Seems like every time one of them gets 3-50 from 25 overs or better, the other is going for 0-100 off 20. I agree with Beamer, if your batsmen are rubbish, and they seem to be, then you might as well get rid of one of them and...

Road to the 2015 Ashes in England

Amazed there's no reference to 517-1 or Cook's 7 million runs.

    Spin Allrounders vs Pace Allrounders

The sides seem a bit heavy on "batsman who bowl", rather than "bowlers who bat". Johnson, Harris, Starc, Pattinson, Philander, Broad (hmm, based on Leeds at least....), Jordan, Kumar... might all average 20+ with the bat which gets them close to allrounder territory - at least as much as...

Australia, time to end the all rounder thing?

No-one really engaged with my last contribution but I think the make-up of the Australian side is interesting so I'll have another go. You have five batsmen, one of whom bowls a bit of pick 'n' mix legspin. You have a respectable keeper-batsman, though he's not as good as he was. You have two...

Are we really going to pretend that Murali Vijay....

Ah but after Cook's return to form I think Vijay would get voted back to being only 3rd best opener around...

Australia, time to end the all rounder thing?

Is there a keeper in Australia who could conceivably average 40 with the bat? Cos given the batting talents of Pattinson, Johnson, Harris, Starc, and now Hazlewood (and Lyon has long been the world's best number xi), would it possibly be better to have 5x batsman, a keeper who could cope at 6...

Fourth below India. England would stay fifth.

*Official* New Zealand in England 2015

Radio said it's the first time 8 players have hit a six in an innings (or was it test?). As an aside, sizeable earthquake just here in Dunedin. Really rocked. Anything anywhere else?

*Official* New Zealand in England 2015

Definitely declarer if they get to 400.... a) it should be enough, b) who knows how much time we'll lose to rain, and c) if they lose, at least avoid the indignity of having a world record scored against them.

*Official* New Zealand in England 2015

Getting a wicked sense of deja vu all over again. NZ to get a reasonable first innings lead, then n abysmal second innings batting effort and/or a flat bowling performance will see England home by 6 wickets. Seems to be the routine for us in England this century, this match looking no...

The ATG Teams General arguing/discussing thread

Yeah, not sure it's allowed to put the same player in two teams in two different roles. Anyone know what McCullum's average is since he gave up the gloves? I felt he'd made a lot of very big scores but with not so much inbetween so his overall average isn't that great. Think it's a big...

*Official* New Zealand in England 2015

The description on the radio didn't call it a half-volley, just a length ball. But if it was a half-volley that's almost worse - McCullum is good enough to hit a half volley along the ground to the fence. It's only going nuts at it that causes a miscue to mid-off.

*Official* New Zealand in England 2015

Sorry, I don't care what the approach is, unless you're declaring in the next 10 minutes, hitting a length ball loosener straight down mid-off's throat first ball after tea is just dumb... McCullum has scored two doubles and a triple batting "properly" not so long ago, so I just don't get the...

*Official* New Zealand in England 2015

Cook yes, he was extremely solid early on and gave the bowlers nothing (lucky with lbw shouts later on after the damage had been done). But Root was pretty lucky to survive the morning, first hour in particular. At least three flew past the outside edge, including first or second ball, Boult...
