It's nice to see Root doesn't shut up shop.

With such a big stride forward, it's always a more than fair possibilty it will sail too far away. As long as we go by the benefit of the doubt for the batsman, I think it is quite right to give it not out. This proves why. It was missing leg stump by some margin.

On English openers: Is Sam Robson still in the picture? He's quite young. But I have no clue on how he performed in fc cricket.

I guess sometimes batsmen honoustly think they haven't nicked it, whereas they did.

Fair enough I guess. I have no clear recollection of Root's average-lifting mega innings being the one were England had a 200 runs first innings lead to build on. I probably missed it. I do remember Bell's innings though. Yeah, that's likely indeed right now. Still don't like the idea of...

It's just wrong to have Root named in a wheel of mediocrity. And that based on 5 tests. Criminal really!

That's not the same as 'Whleel of Mediocrity' though.

Indeed. Averaging 37.7 in just 5 tests as opener.

Sky commentators say it kept low, but that was going on to hit the top off middle stump. Not bouncing as much as anticipated, is not the same as keeping low...... It's not like the ball went beneath Alex' straight bat......

The only thing that could make this match interesting, imho. Do England really care about 2-1 or 2-0? Series in the bag, might as well have a hack! Oh, and of course there is Alastair Cook nearing 10000 runa.

12 overs today, 98 tomorrow (wheather permitting)? Hence 382 to get in 110 overs. Unlikely, but not impossible. I can't say 10 wickets look that probable either. Deck's still not misbehaving that much.

Is there a reason ABdV and/or the team are not risking a loss to increase the chances to win? Series already lost, no chance of whitewash. So why not go for it?

I'm prepared to give you some credit. Must do so, given you have RPF as your avatar.

Though I agree this is what 'people' will think, it is not necesarily what Trevor B thinks. Maybe he will indeed ask from Hales what 91JMay suggested. And forgive him if he gets out slogging for hardly anything.

The pitch is still good, I think. A draw getting more likely?

To be fair, the two are not mutually exclusive. Tendulkar is pure class, but still overrated by those who rate him over The Don.

Something I was just wondering. Have the likes of Lara, Chanderpaul, Younis, Sanga, Ponting, Dravid, Tendulkar & Kallis ever had 3 ducks in a row?

Just the one wicket makes things a bit different. SA won't put another 150 to their total, easily. My bet would be on the Saffers getting all out, but still win it, even without Abbott.
