*Official* England Tour of Sri Lanka 2018

I think Root's and Moeen's wickets had nothing to do with the pitch. And Foakes wasn't out, really. SL on top, imho.

IMHO, Sam Curran is only dropworthy because of his age. Which is wrong, I think. Would England really score that many more runs with YJB in and SC out (no matter who bats where)? Is that worth losing SC’s bowling? I would never ever drop the huge talent that is Sam Curran!

Does his FC-record support it too?

This has me thinking. I can't remember any examples of horses-for-courses-openers. My gut feeling says it's a bowler's thing. Apart from that, Jennings has not convinced me yet, he is that good vs spin.

At lunch day 1, England were in a hole At tea day 1, they had climbed out At stumps day 1, Eng were a bit on top At lunch day 2, SL were in a very big hole At tea day 2, SL had managed to climb up a bit At stumps day 2, SL were even in a bigger hole than at lunch I can't see this match going...

I know, too easy, but: That's all Foakes! For today. Hopefully a 100 tomorrow.

Last four balls of the day (oh wait, one more over) -beaten -beaten -edged -edged

I was just wondering what would be a good score. Given some of the dismissals, one has to feel England could have been in a stronger position. Winning the toss and ending up with, say, 222 runs, never feels good.

He looks very good, I think. What about his keeping? Better than YJB's?

In addition to the action at the boundary: IMHO, it looked like Praveen had lost the ball and simply assumed it had bounced back into the field of the rope.

Talks on declaration are ALWAYS too early. Yet, batting the last two overs for maidens doesn't really make any sense.

The question is:why are his FC-figures so dire?

Though I am somewhat impressed by ML's bowling, I don't think we should get too carried away. His second wicket was very good, but the third was nothing but the batsman's fault.

Yeah, looked very plumb. I figured, Zaman reviewing, it must have been an inside edge. That's something I find very hard to judge, (both watching it on TV from the front, as well as doing umpiring duties myself). But replays clearly showed 'no edge'. I was a bit surprised it was hitting the...

I haven't seen any footage (does anyone know where to watch in Europe / UK?). According to cricinfo, he failed to read a wrong-un.

TBF: Getting more than 90 overs in, is not too odd in India (or anywhere where conditions favour spinners a bit more), as fast bowling simply takes longer due to its nature. Sometimes it's just weird that a captain gets penalised for a low over rate. If conditions favour fast bowlers, and if...

Well, well..... That last ball wicket tips the balance towards India. Still, a more than decent effort by the Windies. EDIT: not done for the day, apparently,

Nah..... We've seen stranger things happen... Cricket is a funny game...... You never know..... All true, but Pak have this in the bag and wrapped up.

Only true if England can find an opener to average 30. Out of he last dozen they tried, none did so.

I don't think it's a bad idea. England should realise there is no obvious (or traditional) solution. England, as a simple matter of fact, have a gazillion later middle order test level batsmen, but no test level openers. It makes sense to shift the batssmen less likely to fail, up the order. And...
