    8th Match - South Africa v India

Nah, not if SA can make 60 at 7 per over, for the 8th wicket.

True, but that's really a while ago now!

    8th Match - South Africa v India

Does anyone know Duminy's selection is influenced by quota? I'm having a discussion with friends on his selection, and this came up as an arguement. Does it hold any truth, not regarding merit?

Just wondering: at what point does the ball become alive?

The problem is that Joe Root is the only specialist batsman in the team, whose place is not under pressure. This is not something new: Kohli, Williamson and Smith (duhuh, before the sandpaper came out) were all appointed captains, at least partly on being a non-pressured batsman.

Imho, it’s just weird not to have Stokes on. He’s not having an issue, is he?

I'm a bit surprised about the seemingly CW-agreement of not rating Starc. I know it's not just about raw data or stats, but Starc, as one of 4 bowlers, took 1 in 4 wickets, at a decent rate and a very good average. Lyon being the only one that took more wickets. So, it doesn't make sense...

What Qualifies as a Test Allrounder?

I think it's not the easiest question to be answered. If we would go by the idea that an all-rounder would be selected on both abilities alone, we have hardly any all-rounders! I'm comfortable with the idea the OP's question does not have an answer we can agree on.

Early days, but I'm not convinced England have solved their openers problem. Is YJB an option?

Probbaly been answered, but.... Where's one of my favourite cricketers, Jason Holder?

Proper test cricket, not! One gets stumped on his 6th delivery. Another gets himself LBW missing the sweep on his 7th ball.

No arguing with that, I suppose!

*Official* England Tour of Sri Lanka 2018

I'm a bit puzzled what to think of this test. SL setting wide open fields. England go sweeping, while every single batsman gets out missing the sweep, until some freak 10th wicket partnership saves the innings. Or so. Also, when Jimmy and Curran had the new ball yesterday, they were a bit...

    A) That was not the situation. He was just outside the batting crease (and possibly thought he had grounded his bat?), and could have easily grounded it, before taking the second run. They simply jogged back. No hurry at all. B) The advantage is not about avoiding a run-out, but keeping the...

As I see it, he didn't deliberately fail to ground his bat to gain an advantage. Very poor umpiring if you ask me. Anyway, umpires make silly mistakes too. Best to just forget it, I think. This match is wonderfully set up!

No idea. Are there situations imaginable where one can benefit from (deliberately) not grounding ones bat?

*Official* England Tour of Sri Lanka 2018

As batting 4th will probably be tough, SL gaining a 30-40 run lead would be perfect. Can't see that happen easily though.

On him: It feels like he has been with the side for far longer. Earlier this year, England had Dom Bess in the side. I think Moeen was out then, so Leach is probably also selected to have different types of spinners, but still! Since when was Leach considered? And why not earlier? TBH, I had not...
