na don't you understand. GF has actually enlightened us that Eng were in fact maximizing the chances of a result by batting slower than molasses on days 2 and 3. So really we should be thanking Cook for that exciting finish to the series.

Sorry I didn't realize that having half your batsmen playing at SR's of 25 was the perfect balance between not throwing your wicket away and putting runs on the board. The wicket clearly was uber difficult to score runs on too.

You can't be robbed when it was your teams idea to play for a draw in the first innings

    omg that is ABSURD

That's because the chance of a win dropped dramatically when Eng got off to a good start. They could have easily lost a few early wickets, and it would have been a different story.

Not much. I also don't think Eng had much of a chance either. I don't think it was a reckless declaration at all.

What about if we won though. You don't think the benefit of a getting a win on the board in an otherwise disappointing series would have been a risk worth taking?

Yeah obv he's done it in an attempt to win. But, as you said, a mentality like that means entertainment is more often than not an incidental feature, and that should be appreciated (no matter what team you are following).

yep because Clarke's declaration was outrageously risky wasn't it?

*Official* Fifth Test at The Oval

Well as far as I'm concerned that takes precedence. Yeah it's obv great if the results are better for your team, but at the same time, if I had to choose between watching us play out a draw from the onset of the second innings, vs this scenario (resulting in an England win), I'd take the latter...

na what is with all these comments. This game has been turned alive because of positive cricket from Clarke. He had a chance to go for a relatively risk free shot at a win, and he took it. I never thought Eng would have even got close to winning here, but if you make such decisions there will...

has there been a single run-out this series?

*Official* Fifth Test at The Oval

na no way. There's pretty much no chance of a win either way, but England sure as hell aren't winning this.

*Official* Fifth Test at The Oval

yeah he will. There would be no point whatsoever in telling all the batsmen to come and hit out unless he planned on going for a win.

Can't say I enjoyed it tbh. Almost dry gagged.
