*Official* Second Test at the Adelaide Oval

Yeah Harris is so, so important to our attack. It makes such a difference to have a genuinely good, consistent wicket taking bowler as the leader of the attack (as opposed to what we used to have in Hilf, Siddle and Johnson). Such an asset is Harris, long may he stay fit.

not really, aside from the first test he wasn't all that crash hot. But i agree with topcat in that he won't likely be considered a 4th choice bowler at any stage in this series.

When is Patto forecast to return? It would be amazing if our attack for Perth could be Harris, Patto, Johnson and Siddle/Lyon.

*Official* First Test at The Gabba

yeah that will be the true test for him. If he still manages to blow Eng away at Adelaide then I'll be closer to being sold. Given he relied predominately on short, fiery stuff in this match to do the job it will be interesting to see how he adapts on what should (surely) be a much less...

Be interested to see what people think re Johnson now...he was obviously very good in this match, but just another flash in the pan performance or the start of something better at last? Gotta say I'm extremely dubious given his history, but there's no doubt he is ridiculously fun to watch when...

Warner's such a useful player to have when your in a commanding position.

Australia's test side for the Ashes in Australia

oh why did he retire from aus FC? I thought he was killing in in county cricket

What's the status on Magoffin, why isn't he in the frame?

I would take Faulkner over Johnson at this stage for the all-round reasons you describe, but let's be honest, his figures in his test debut aren't a true indication of how he bowled. He didn't bowl badly, but he didn't actually look like taking wickets.

@spikey, but his name sounds so delicious

Why doesn't Butterworth ever get a mention. I mean if they are willing to play Bird, how is he that much different. He adds a lot with the bat too.

yeah brayshaw is pure hell. Think Hussey will be pretty good. Will no doubt try and come up with interesting things to say. Doesn't exactly have a commentators voice though.

oh that sucks. Doubt he would have been picked anyway tho.

on the same wavelength here. The best thing about the other better options, like Bollinger, as well is that they aren't likely to stick around with the team for very long. It allows our first choice attack, when they are fit, to return without much fuss. You just know though that if Johnson puts...

*Official* First Test at The Gabba

I agree with all of this, but my point (pretty much as you implied in the last paragraph) is that I don't think his 'middle of the spectrum' performance is good enough to justify selection. And, as you said, there is a reasonable chance he could unsettle the balance of the rest of the attack if...

*Official* First Test at The Gabba

yeah i cant see much swing from the highlights. 4 of his 8 wickets were from short balls though, and given that was probably on a fairly quick, bouncy wicket it's just not an approach that would be as effective outside of the WACA.

*Official* First Test at The Gabba

I just think it's too predicable, especially for the English batsmen who seem to play him very well. He needs to get the occasional one to swing back in, because then it suddenly puts all this doubt in the batsmans mind, and they can't leave the ones slanting across them with such confidence...

*Official* First Test at The Gabba

He's not that good if he isn't swinging it though. He can be a decent bowler if he is bowling with pace and aggression and has his bouncer on target, but it's not enough to justify any hype. Has Johnson ever been devastating without swing being at least part of the equation? In all honesty I...

*Official* First Test at The Gabba

yeah it's such a broken record. I'm not even angry when I read about it anymore...the repetitiveness of it all has just made me apathetic. As has been said many times in the past, there's isn't much good that can come out of selecting Johnson now. If he fails, he fails, and probably will bring...
