    *Official* Australia in decline thread

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Thommo: Australia will grovel He was averaging abot 78 mph during the summer if you care to remember. And he looked very hittable at times. He used to have a "fastball" ... now it's all cutters. Basically, he's lost his fastball. Remember that deadly bouncer he used to...

    *Official* Australia in decline thread

Re: Re: Re: Re: Thommo: Australia will grovel He's a 30 year old bowling like a 35 year old verteran. His velocity has dropped 5-6 mph on average in 4 years. He's still the best all rounder in world cricket, but he's past his peak. He's not the bowler he was. He's bowling like a willey...

    *Official* Australia in decline thread

Re: Re: Thommo: Australia will grovel That's tough one ... I see most of the test match teams declining in one way or another. South Africa are on the down side. What happens when Pollock retires? Ntini is ordinary ... nothing else to speak off. England have some very promising quick...

    flair in batting

Since when are flair and elegance the same thing? Ganguly is UUUGGLLAAAYYY. Marginally more attractive than Chanderpaul. Wanna see a lefty with flair ... fly to the Carribean. Ponting might not be elegant ... but when he steps into those off drives at the top of their bounce ... it's a...

Murali ... Lara ... Pollock ... Ponting ... Vaughn ... Chris Read (uuuuh ... maybe not) ... Jayawarndena ... There are quite a few players who have performed well since we started.

    flair in batting

Dravid and Ganguly are flair players? I'll admit that Dravid played with a bit more freedom than usual today ... but he's not a flair player by any stretch of the imagination. Ganguly is plain ugly at the crease IMO. Laxman, Sehwag and Tendulkar are a different story though. I'd still rate the...

Worst fielder atm in international cricket

Mark Butcher ... can't catch for ****. Why is he always in the slips? Ok hardly the worst ... but possible the worst "specialist slipper" around ... or is it just my impression :) Hicky was a pretty awful "specialist slipper" too. Took some blinders against right handed batters ... but seemed...

Vintage Cricket - Official Drafting Thread

At the end of the draft we'll re-evaluate the stats for current players. I can't freeze the stats, and it would unfairly penalise the contemporary players selected early in the draft. Will have the updated stats in about 30 minutes ... forgot the include the catches and had to go through every...

    England bowling

I've always hated that way of looking at things. So what if Grame Hick average 40 between 1996 and 1999. He was still a mediocre test match batsman. If an average of 40-45 is your peak, then you'll be lucky to have a career average over 35. Butcher is another who keeps reminding us about his 40...

    England bowling

IMO the current players are getting plenty of opportunities. They're just getting injured too often. I think if they're all fit and playing on a regular (non-subcontinental) wicket, it would be Harmison, Flintoff, Giles, and 2 off Hoggard or Anderson or Jones. The batting sucks with the insane...

    England bowling

One thing actually pleased me about the recent test match. I noticed that both Flintoff and Hoggard have begun to cut the ball. This is after all the the delivery that has made both Pollock and McGrath such a threat on even dead wickets. English bowlers too often rely on either swing or seam...
