Atherton's scathing views on Brian Lara and his legacy

It's impossible to gag ex-cricketers, although the ICC could have a code of conduct or something similar for these individuals in the future. But, I believe he can say whatever he wants - but he will lack the credibility because he is essentially commenting on a topic which he lacks sufficient...

They deserve an official post, don't they?

Runners should be banned - becoming rather farcical

deeps is right, there is rampant abuse of the system at the moment. Most batsman that get a 100 in the first innings of an ODI take it for granted that they can say off the field for a certain period...really is unacceptable.

    Gilchrist to change codes?

I reckon Jayasurya might have a good crack at it.

    Lehmann Dropped For Ashes

His test record is average at best, considering he was a part of one of the most dominant teams ever.

    Inzi escapes stone throwing attack...Shocking!!

Why was the team allowed in the mist of such a large crowd without sufficient barriers/protection. Very poor security arrangements, given the nature of relations between India and Pakistan.

    Big Stomach XI

Narendra Hirwani, that bloke was round.

SJS? how old are you? Pretty pointless post there.

Runners should be banned - becoming rather farcical

I believe that batsmen should be banned from requesting runners. The current situtation just leaves too much room for batsman to request one for fatigued based rather than genuine reasons. If anyone watched the 2nd ODI between India and Pakistan, you will know where I'm coming from...

Dhoni as an opener in tests

It shows he has the makings of a great player. Give the guy time, he is just getting started. His recent Ranji Trophy outings have shown vast improvement already. Look at Michael Clarke, his first class average may not have necessarily been flash - but he had the makings of a great player.

Dhoni as an opener in tests

I was actually referring to his List-A limited overs record, which is up near the 50s. Well, it indicates it is out of his depth because he has not shown sufficiant mental prowess to succeed at the highest level so far.

Dhoni as an opener in tests

You only have to compare their first-class records to see that Dhoni is on a totally different class to Afridi. Although, you are right, we have to wait and see if he can deliver such performances regularly for India. But I don't think it's very easy to do that when batting down the order with...

Dhoni as an opener in tests

I feel the number 7 position would not be suitable for a player of Dhoni's class. He would have to regularly bat with the Indian tail, which is really one of the poorest tails in international cricket. Also I feel Gambhir has really looked out of his depth at test level. Every innings he seems...

Dhoni as an opener in tests

This would allow the Indian team to drop Gambhir, and accomodate either Yuvraj Singh or Mohammad Kaif into the line-up. Imagine an opening combination comprising of Dhoni and Sehwag, both have similar games and will provide the Indians with explosive, matchwinning starts to their innings'.

    Ganguly bats for Greg Chappel

I think India need someone more dynamic, someone of a younger generation who has played the game in the modern era. I feel a guy like Steve Waugh would be the most ideal candidate for the job.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/main.jhtml?xml=/sport/2005/04/03/scathe03.xml&sSheet=/sport/2005/04/03/ixcrick.html West Indies dispel myth they can't live without Lara By Michael Atherton (Filed: 03/04/2005) I wonder what Brian Lara was doing on the first day of the ongoing Test match...

The upcoming World vs Australia series

Murali Kartik is a better bowler than Vettori. On recent form, one would have to put Kaneria, Kumble, and Harbhajan ahead of him.

Lessons for indian team after the indo-pak test series

Karthick needs to go and work on his keeping AND batting. Dhoni needs to come in as he can also hold his own as a batsman. Gambhir has also been found wanting against the test level - he failed to take advantage of starts against both the South Africans and Pakistan, both being series in...
