    Final – India v New Zealand – Sunday, March 9 – Dubai

Young did have his problems against Varun in the previous game. Good start, but still feel Conway would have been the better selection given India’s attack.

    Final – India v New Zealand – Sunday, March 9 – Dubai

Yeah would have preferred Duffy, but in any case Henry’s loss means NZ will have to bat that much better.

    All-Time New Zealand XIs - A re-run

I hear you (and remember that India series well enough), but I think Ronchi the specialist bat was always going be a horses for courses pick. I doubt Hesson was looking at him as a batting option beyond that tour. He’d been a backup keeper otherwise for the entire 2013-16 cycle with that one...

    All-Time New Zealand XIs - A re-run

Ronchi might have actually enjoyed a decent test career for NZ had it not coincided with BJW. Likef his glovework too. Picked in the wrong format.

    All-Time New Zealand XIs - A re-run

I assumed “one bowler” earlier could be either pace or spin. Anyway, for this segment, going with Ian Smith Jacob Oram Hedley Howarth (who seems to have the popular vote anyway)

    Final – India v New Zealand – Sunday, March 9 – Dubai

Conway for Young or Mitchell is something NZ should strongly consider. It’s no guarantee of success, but if they’re to win they’ll need someone to take down spin like Ravindra against Maharaj the other day, or Mitchell against Kuldeep at Dharamsala in WC23 (and even that wasn’t enough for a...

    Final – India v New Zealand – Sunday, March 9 – Dubai

Yeah the calendar is the way it is for a good reason, just that (to me at least) it dilutes the standing of the T20 WC as the biggest event in the sport. I wish they'd show some imagination and find other ways of getting international games in there - for example, the two teams which tour India...

    Final – India v New Zealand – Sunday, March 9 – Dubai

If the T20 WC final is to become the biggest thing in cricket, they'll need to play to world cup less frequently, maybe once every 4 years like the 50-year version. Right now it seems tacked in at every opportunity without room for narratives to build. Will agree it feels more like a proper...

    Final – India v New Zealand – Sunday, March 9 – Dubai

Broadly true, but believe it or not NZ have defeated Australia 3 times in ICC white ball tournaments in the last decade (Aus have won 4 times). If there was ever a time NZ would prefer to play Australia over India it would be this tournament. NZ chances are a lot better if they bat first, no...

Semi-Final #2- New Zealand v South Africa- Wednesday, March 5th- Lahore

Oversimplification maybe, but the game was decided two battles - VDD vs Santner and Ravindra vs Maharaj. VDD was playing wonderfully well and just getting into his groove, took a bit of magic from Santner to get rid of him. If he carried on to a hundred, who knows. NZ could well have been under...

Semi-Final #2- New Zealand v South Africa- Wednesday, March 5th- Lahore

Phillips probably deserved more game time over Brook for SRH, other than that they’re doing pretty well for themselves in the IPL of late.

Bring back (John) Bracewell. The player that is, not coach. Actually coach might also be okay.

Semi-Final #2- New Zealand v South Africa- Wednesday, March 5th- Lahore

Well played Miller, if that's his last major tournament for SA that's a pretty good way to finish. Great that NZ won a knockout without any murmurs about rain or conditions. On to the finals then for the latest edition of the Kohli-Williamson trophy..

Semi-Final #2- New Zealand v South Africa- Wednesday, March 5th- Lahore

I doubt Smith or Duffy would do much better. Duffy maybe, but would be very against type for NZ to bring him into the final.

Matt Henry back to the bowling crease? That's a desperate attempt to add some interest to this game now.

Well, you felt there was no need to read too much into India's bowling performance against NZ the other night, so that makes us even :)

Semi-Final #2- New Zealand v South Africa- Wednesday, March 5th- Lahore

Too bad for the Lahori/Pakistani audience that this is fizzing out (unless Miller suddenly manages a surge), shaping as a very tame end to their hosting of the tournament.

Yeesh that was an absolute giveaway from Markram.

No idea what the update on Henry will be, but if he's unable to bowl for the remainder of this innings SA might look at it as a possible opening in the death overs if they can keep wickets in hand. RRR of 9.5 means its stacked against them though.
