    All-Time Ireland XIs - (Not) A re-run

I mean, Moor's record - poor though it is - is definitely superior to Porterfield. The argument for Porterfield is similar to that for Dockrell. I don't like it, but if them's the choices, I'll go for Moor. Probably shouldn't be in the Zimbabwe teams. You make your choice and revoke your privilege.

Viv Richards vs Brian Lara vs Curtly Ambrose

Nope. I mean, the maroon-bellied conures suited West Indian names more. But I'm still not sure that there's a Kiwi I'd place ahead of some of the other players I named in terms of cricketing cool. Cult heroes, yes but not so much of the swashbuckling mercuriality.

    *Official* Women's Cricket discussion thread

Look, I don't care what it takes but I want to have statistically mis-informed debates about all cricketers, not just men. This means Cricinfo or whoever needs to pull finger and start providing this information on a publicly accessible source. This just tells me that it should be easy for...

    *Official* Women's Cricket discussion thread

Cricinfo/ICC need to start recognising domestic women’s cricket in the same way as the men. There should be List A and T20 stats recorded for the women. If Romania vs. Abkhazia counts as a T20I for men then why the hell isn’t Essex vs Warks counted as List A for women? The statistical misogyny...

Viv Richards vs Brian Lara vs Curtly Ambrose

Eesh. I know I’m in the minority, but the best pace bowlers get the heart going in a way that even the best batsmen can only dream of. That said, Viv, Lara and Aravinda have long been the batsmen I’d be happiest to watch. Still, Marshall and Ambrose ahead of them for me. I didn’t name my pets...

    **Official** English Football Season 2024/25

Where I grew up, the local team was West Ham. Probably half hour down the railway line to get to the Boleyn Ground. Probably a similar distance to get to a lower league club like Southend or Colchester. My dad's family were from Tottenham. My uncle worked for Tottenham. Tottenham was instilled...

    Neil Wagner vs Jason Gillespie

This is an interesting one. I've gone for Wagner as he took on the hard yards; striving with every sinew to extract anything from the pitch when others couldn't. And he was often successful with it. A wonderful foil for any great pair of new ball bowlers. As such, I'd say he'd be more useful...

    **Official** English Football Season 2024/25

The Premier League has made tons of money from internationalisation. I have more issue with someone in the UK choosing to support a particular team for glory when their local team needs their support. When the clubs have been deliberately spreading their brand overseas, it seems pretty churlish...

    All-Time Ireland XIs - (Not) A re-run

Well, I think you can have better seamers for Dockrell and then use McBrine in the all rounder slot. That’s going to serve this team better, I reckon. Furthermore, if we’re counting non-test cricket, then Boucher and Monteith were better bowlers than Dockrell. His FC record is pretty poor -...

    All-Time Ireland XIs - (Not) A re-run

And by the time Dockrell got to play Tests, his bowling had regressed substantially. It's simply that Ireland haven't played enough Tests to have a variety to choose from that he's even in the discussion. McBrine has performed much better than Dockrell, has played more Tests and just is also a...

    From the Pavilion

Another interesting youth pull today. Reasonable batting, reasonable power, ordinary bowling.... everything else is atrocious or dreadful. RHB, RM and Old Ball Bowler trait. With the boost to batting and power it seems sensible to just put him on fielding training until tech and field catch up...

Chu still injured or Hay just preferred?

    All-Time Ireland XIs - (Not) A re-run

Nah. He’s far from Ireland’s best spinner and since they started playing Tests he was more of an all-rounder than spinner as - certainly compared to his ODI record. If you’re picking on Tests and Tests alone then other options are definitely legit.

    All-Time Ireland XIs - (Not) A re-run

Gonna be tricky to choose between Dermott Monteith and James Boucher for the spinning slot.

    Zimbabwe are Improving!

That’s a shame. Their two current grounds are beautiful. Why aren’t they playing many tests at Harare though? Most fixtures seem to be in Bulawayo. Harare not meeting standards in some way?

Ange is for the chop regardless of whether he wins the Europa League. Anyway, congrats to Bodø/Glimt for being the first Norwegian team in a European final. EDIT: Aren't Bodø @Magrat Garlick 's team? Seems long ago in the mists of time, but I'm not sure why I'd particularly recognise the name...

*Official* Zimbabwe in Bangladesh (Test Series)

Great win for Zimbabwe. Still look a little short of seam bowling prowess after Blessing. Looking at the U19s/academy players, Brandon Senzere seems to have performed pretty well (better than Nyamhuri who’s already played Tests). Can’t seem to find any highlights or comments about what sort of...

*Official* Zimbabwe in Bangladesh (Test Series)

It’s great to see Zimbabwe playing so many Tests again. Probably one of my favourite teams to watch historically. I’d much rather watch Zimbabwe against other than another, say, Australia vs India series. Hopefully they can keep this rate of Test cricket up. Hope they tour NZ soon as unlike...
