England players and selection discussion thread

I see Tongue picked up an injury playing for England A. Might disrupt his chances for making the Test line-up.

    From the Pavilion

Nice one. We'll do battle again next season, hopefully. Both with very similar ratings at the moment too, so they should be cracking fixtures. Losing both games to White Hats by a combined 35 runs was a shame. Such a narrow margin between promotion and stagnation.

Run out not recorded on the scorecard. Normally, the order of events doesn't matter on a run out off a wide, but with the wide call, the game ends so no run out I assume.

Best Young Talents from Each Nation

Eeesh. Then you're letting in any 30+ year old NZ journeyman when Steady Stead is at the helm. Crikey!

Best Young Talents from Each Nation

Pfft. Most of those are T20s. And at least he qualifies as a 'young talent'. 26 surely doesn't.

Naqvi’s mid-20s. Brian Bennett is surely Zimbabwe’s choice here?

    English Domestic Season 2025

I'd been wondering why Essex had been persevering with young Charlie Allison - averaging about 17 with a high score of 28. But a drop down to 5 and he scores his first FC ton against a reasonable Surrey bowling attack. Nice work!

*Official* Zimbabwe in England (One Off Test)

Hasn't he retired anyway? He hasn't played a competitive game since 2021 it would seem pretty odd to throw him back in for a game like this.

Just kept getting injury after injury as I recall. Probably for the best that he didn't try and sidestep Smudge given both of their injury track records.

Both teams have been much better in Europe though. Tottenham have played a much more balanced game and you don't beat a team like Bilbao 7-1 on aggregate without having something going on. Bilbao are 4th in La Liga and Man U outplayed and out-thought them over the 2 legs.

Nice. Get the duster out, time to clean the trophy cabinet cupboard table box.

A couple of atrocious collapses in that match, really. Wouldn't be betting on either team in the future tbph.

    English Domestic Season 2025

Not as bad as Essex's against Yorkshire at home. Losing Cox at the same time as Cook being rested isn't ideal. I'm also not sure why Paul Walter, probably our form batsman, isn't playing. But still, to be at risk of losing by 400 runs at home is abject.

    *Official* Bangladesh A v New Zealand A

Odd that NZC dropped their two best performing batsmen from match 1 (Mariu and Foxcroft). Almost as if they're treating these as warm-ups and wanted those who hadn't done well a 2nd chance.

Ranking the Auxiliary skills in test cricket

And boy do I love it when they do. I was almost willing to forgive Tim Southee for not making the most of his batting during his career when he finally pulled out a vital and largely sensible innings in the India series last year. That was before the Magical Farewell Tour, mind.
