    2024–25 NZ domestic season

Hobart's team is a bit of a joke. 5 overseas players to CD's 1. None of whom played for these teams in their domestic tournaments.

Upcoming young batting prospects in your country whom you fancy would play test cricket

There's that young lad at ND that Howsie's been waxing lyrical about whose name escapes me. EDIT: Xavier Bell

*Official* Australia Tour of West Indies 2025

These were three competitive tests. Would have loved to watch 'em but the time of day hasn't been quite right. For those who've been watching, how much closer might they have been if the Windies had won all three tosses? They were in every test until the final innings.

    **Official** English Football Season 2025/26

Andy Carroll joins Dagenham and Redbridge. Who’ve apparently been sold to wealthy new owners. Could be interesting times out East.

    Ian Healy vs BJ Watling

The main elements about BJ Watling that I think mark him out above others are: (i) He made some tough runs. He seemed to perform best when the team were up against it and made some really invaluable runs. (ii) He gave a man of the match interview once where he could barely string a sentence...

5 worst centres of all time

I'm not talking about the towns as a whole, but the Town Centre. The sea front at Portsmouth is not the town centre. Basildon is the only town I've ever been to where there was a random curfew in the town centre. It was a **** heap at the time and most of the nightlife was at the out-of-town...

5 worst centres of all time

Basildon and Portsmouth. I used to live less than 20 miles from Harlow but, I think it tells you something, I have never been to Harlow town centre.

    2025-26 New Zealand domestic season

Just noting for Otago followers that Ben Lockrose has been playing for Essex 2nd XI. Took 9 wickets against Leics 2nd XI. Not sure whether he counts as an overseas player given he was born in the UK - might be a dual national?

How much does scoreboard pressure benefit bowlers?

How much of it is scoreboard pressure and how much is due to keeping the opposition out in the field for longer, draining the energy and potentially making a top order breakthrough easier. Referenced the Lara 400 test yesterday and England's reply was poor (other than Thorpe) and I suspect a...

How important are runs from number 8?

And yet, on those rare occasions that he did score runs and in particular bat with half of his available brain cell, then he could make a difference (c.f. his valuable runs in the recent 1st Test vs. India). The situational awareness of a brick submerged in a bog. Thick as mince.

Oscar Jackson gets the final Wellington contract. Batting all-rounder and recent NZ U-19 captain.

*Official* South Africa Test Tour of Zimbabwe 2025

That was a really flat deck that Lara scored that 400 on too. Wasn't even close to getting a result in that match in the end, even if England were rolled cheaply in their first reply (probably in no small part to having fielded for over 200 overs).

*Unofficial* New Zealand Black Caps Thread

They'd better not be thinking of giving Nicholls the Magical Farewell Tour like they gave Southee. It was a vomit-inducing **** fest for Southee, but it'd be considerably worse for Nicholls. Amazed he's not behind a dozen other options - Chapman, Mariu, Kelly, Heaphy, Carter, Abbas, Hay...

Players who overcame prolonged poor starts to be rated really highly during their playing careers.

Marvan Atapattu First six innings: 0 (1990) 0 0 (first baller) (1992) 1 0 (1994) 0 And then finally made a career of it from 1997 onwards. Was he rated really highly? Maybe not, but certainly a career-crippling start he had to overcome and yet ended up playing 90 Tests.

In terms of pure bowling skill, is Bumrah the greatest you have seen?

I'm gonna vote for @Smudge. Not only a fine bowler in his own right, but could do a full smorgasbord of recognisable facsimiles of other (mainly NZ) bowlers. That's a breadth of skill you're highly unlikely to find elsewhere. When has Bumrah ever decided to bowl a ball like Gavin Larsen? Eh? Eh?
