***Official*** 4th Test at the MCG

I guess you could argue there is more pressure on England now as there was little expectation they would win. The real expectation was not to get white washed. Australian teams get benchmarked against white wash teams.

I think a lot of people will be in a position to advise at stumps tomorrow. With England's ability to collapse they could still have a first innings deficit. My prediction is whichever team are batting at stumps will win, but that doesn't really help.

Mistakes in selection on this tour by England

There is quite a big difference between his home and away stats. Didn't do himself a lot of good when he allegedly fell apart a little when Cricket Australia went for him. Sure he'll be given a chance, but he's not someone you'd have 100 percent in.

Mistakes in selection on this tour by England

Monty went at over 4 runs an over in Australia and averaged over 50 against the Aussies in total. There's a lost of misty eyed recollections of English spin bowling success in Australia. Swann went for over 4 runs an over in his final Ashes tour. Not too sure how we develop spinners for these...

England Fans - how is this series shaping up compared to 06/07 and 13/14?

Comparing players from different eras is all but impossible. Lyon has developed in to a very good finger spinner, particularly on Australian pitches where lateral movement is hard. He's the best spinner I've seen al exploiting over and under spin to get the bounce to vary and coupled with his...

So England have indicated Mason Crane plays. Going to be interesting to see how he goes. Heart says it could be a fairy tale head a disaster. At least it provides an incentive to watch a dead rubber.

I wouldn't drop him at the moment but he could well be out early in the summer. Side injury meant he missed too much preseries cricket and the cut on the finger hasn't really helped. His figures aren't that dissimilar to Swann's final Ashes.

I don't have a strong opinion on his captaincy, but do wonder about the strategy of just picking the best batsman as Captain. My guess is it is having some impact on his form. There doesn't seem an obvious alternative anyway. He's relatively young and I'm not sure he should have been burdened...

I think he'd benefit from 12 months at a smaller county where he plays every game. In danger of stagnating is he stays at Hampshire.

I agree, although English cricket has been in this position before and what's been tried has failed. A plan that works in probably take 10 years to come to full fruition.

Pretty much agree with all that. At the moment there isn't a side which does particularly well outside their home conditions. The worrying thing for me isn't the players we select it is that there aren't a lot of alternatives who have more than odd good seasons in first class cricket. I...

My guess all over by lunch. Australian bowlers have been excellent in the first session of the day all series.

The issue is there is no alternative. I'm sure Leach will get a go and I wouldn't be shocked if we end up back at Dawson. The hope is that one of the teenage spinners will come through really strongly at some point in the next 4 years. A bigger worry is that when Anderson goes we'll start to...

***Official*** 3rd Test at the WACA

The seamer, spinner and batting problems have been there for a while. The problem remains there is a lack of quality pushing for a place. There are 2 or 3 players you'd think could bowl some decent seam up in English conditions, but not really with excess pace.

I felt it was an odd selection. He's probably 2 years away from being a test spinner. For me he'd benefit from going somewhere like Northampton for a season and just bowling lots of overs.

I'd agree with that there are some promising candidates but none quite knocking the door down. The best 2 young English seamers last summer weren't really quick.

Put in to perspective Crane has a higher strike rate, economy rate and average last year and over his career than Malan. Would have been very much a punt which could have damaged what chance Crane has of becoming a regular international.

Not for the first time this series the English batsmen have a chance to take Australia deep in to the second new ball. To date the Aussie bowlers have come out really blazing. First 20 overs crucial if England are to stand a chance in the series and the match.

England disintegrating like in 2013-14 Ashes - Johnson

The strange decision for me has been the order of Ali and Bairstow. Ali always feels like a natural 7 and he's scored well there, scoring 3 of his 5 100s. Bairstow is more of a 6, although so is Stokes. Stokes has developed more as a batsman and I suspect will end up at 5. Hopefully...

England disintegrating like in 2013-14 Ashes - Johnson

Yes but ultimately very few players really contributed and it was in home conditions. We aren't rubbish but you can't rely on 50% of a team only and hope to be best in the world. Really good players have different players making a big impact on series because players do go in and out of form.
