    Predict Ricky Ponting's test future.

I think he will score another 3-4 tons over the next 12-15 months and then retire. He may no longer be capable of the breathtaking innings of his prime but if he can just play the way he did today and at the MCG test then he will keep scoring runs for a while yet.

I was thinking Gilchrist straight away so suprised he has not had a mention yet. Had some big lower order partnerships with the likes of warne, lee etc..

Why can't India produce great fast bowlers like Pakistan?

huh? It's not a sport that requires explosive power. Quick reflexes are more important

Why can't India produce great fast bowlers like Pakistan?

There are a lot of factors but one which is over looked is genetics. By nature they do not produce athletes with fast twice muscle fibers like the West Indies for example. This makes it hard to bowl really fast. You don't see many sprinters from India for the same reason.

Kallis vs Ponting as test batsmen

You want stats. Go Look at Kallis record against Zimbabwe, Bangladesh, West Indies and compare them to Ponting's I'm sick of this thread already.

    Do you rate Mitchell Johnson?

Whats that got to do with anything? I think Jimmy is a better bowler right now no doubt. I was just pointing something out.

    Do you rate Mitchell Johnson?

Stats wise he is plus he can bat. I would rather Jimmy though because he is more consistant

Kallis vs Ponting as test batsmen

Your missing the point - being that Ponting matched attacking cricket with consistant run scoring. He might have been more likely to get out but in his prime he very rarely did which is what was so special

Kallis vs Ponting as test batsmen

Even worse when it goes through cover for four.

Kallis vs Ponting as test batsmen

The point is Ponting didnt get out very often

Kallis vs Ponting as test batsmen

Yes but to be honest batting at 3 is harder I really don't think it has much effect. Ponting is always attacking himself anyway so he never really needed anyone to take the pressure of his batting. If's he's at the crease the scoreboard is usually moving.

Kallis vs Ponting as test batsmen

He's always been able to hit boundry's but I would love to see him come out and counter attack when his team is 3/25 like Ponting made his career doing. That's when an attacking innings is really so valuable.

    Best up and coming players

I really think Steve Smith will be a good player, not sure his bowling will be great but it should be quite handy due to the fact he can spin it. As a batsman if he can tighten his techneque a bit he looks the goods

Kallis vs Ponting as test batsmen

People here are so quick to forget the form of Ponting for a good 8-9 years. A longer period of sustained brilliance than almost anyone I can remember. He was named cricketer of the decade not long ago for a reason. I suspect his batting will come good again soon and then everyone will be...

Kallis vs Ponting as test batsmen

I think that's counter acted by the fact Ponting bat's higher in the order than Kallis. Ponting was never much good coming in at 1/200 anyway. Almost all of his hundreds came from the loss of an early wicket.
