    I don't dispute that.. Ponting does get out to it every now and then but also scores more runs off it than anyone else.. re cricinfo from last year or whenever they showed that stat.. funny Hussain actually had the best average so far as playing it and not getting out.

    He tends to push onto the front foot and rock back.. but you are right he never really gets well back. He doesn't really need to, Viv played the shot exactly the same way.

    Well I'm not going to change your opinion or though I disagre with it almost compleatly. So I give up. But I really wouldn't say Ponting is limited in his stroke range lol.. if he didn't want to hook/pull there are still alot of options for him. Infact these days he plays more shots than Tendulkar.

    Well I would have to disagree.. he did struggle with Walsh in general but I do remember a few spanking hooks of both him and Ambrose in his early years. Further more I think he plays the hook with alot more control than Tendulkar.. last time he played against us in oz he had serious trouble...

    agreed.. I don't think anyone is in his class for that shot.. certainly not Sachin whome we all know to be brilliant but i would not say the hook is special shot of his.

    Hmmmm okay so Ponting hooking Donald for sucsessive sixes when not wearing a helmet doesn't include handeling him..?? Shoaib at 90+ MPH ?? Did He not hit Flintoff around with the hook shot during the ashes and super series.. and Harmo too or though he was hit once, due to the unexpected bounce...

    Well i've seen him play it very well but never on bouncy pitches or against really quick bowlers. last tour here he looked very awkward trying to hook Lee on alot of occasions.. and over there carears he has never played it as well as Ponting or for that matter a few others.

    I tried not to be biased but I see more of our players and we have arguable the best batting line up in the world so it's not a real supprise. Also when you have greats in you're team like Ponting and Gilly they are going to occupy a few spots. Tell me what you disagre with?

    I dunno how you can have Sachin as a good hooker and puller.. well okay he is good but there are alot of better players of it than him atm.. and currently Ponting is streets ahead of anyone at that shot and way better at it than Sachin. Never Seem Dravid play that many good backfoot cover...

    yeah and he plays if well of medium pace bowlers as well.. and he really plays it brilliantly off spinners coming down the wicket.

    haha true... when he hits those massive sixes the sound that comes off the bat is almost metalic, the connection is just so sweet and he really does generate unbelievable bat speed.

    dunno how i left straight drive off the list :lol: but I think SRT and Ponting play it better, with the full face of the bat and hit it very hard

    I probably havn't seen him play it enough to judge.. but he was a very good player a few years ago. I think Astle is good with all offside shots actually.

    Ponting does have a good case for all legside shots exept the sweep he's not a big sweeper. For defensive shots I would say Kallis and Dravid..

    Again I think that's a case of his cover drive looking great, but he doesn't make as many runs off it as lara IMO and gets cought behind playing it more..

    Lehmann no longer plays International cricket but he has a good case... I would still go for Gilly. Vaughan's looks one of the best if not the best but I don't think it's as effective as some people think and it gets him out a fair bit.
