Also have to say Haze deserves the place in the team but Boland with the way he has bowled in the BGT could have made a bigger difference. Would have been the ideal bowler down the slope with the ball keeping low and he has the tendency to run through line-ups #captainhindsightthoughts
u drag josh's name into this when nathan lyon has failed to perform in the 4th innings yet again, smh

Amazing win and an ATG innings by Aidan. Test match batting at its absolutely best. Counterattacked when he needed to and then was nerveless through the end

That's why I said he deserves his place though and you can't go in without a spinner. All I'm saying is that I have more faith in Boland to run through a line up but I have no idea at who's expense he should have played

What do AUS do going forward? I had some faith back in Khawaja after the SL runs but he did the exact same thing here he has been doing since the 2023 ashes against good pacers in difficult conditions. Henry, rabada and bumrah have all done the "caught on the crease, nicking a back of a length ball" thing to him and he's looked clueless vs it. Next two assignments are WI away and a home ashes, and we have two away subcontinent tours aswell. Don't know if they have a pacer as good as the guys I just mentioned to work over Khawaja, and Ide back him to average 35 in those games a deal with the away subcont tours even on current form. Hopefully we can miraculously product an opener in FC cricket or have konstas step up in that time.

Marnus needs to go unless he has a huge start to the shield season. If kPat keeps up his form I would consider him, or McSweeney. Either are better than current marnus. Konstas still has a front pad the size of the grand canyon and can't play good spin, and he averages 35 in FC cricket. His game could develop, but I don't think he's the saviour everyone is backing him to be right now.

Green can't bat 3 after this game, and Smith did the "average mid 30's if he walks in early thing" again, so I doubt he could bat 3 even if he wants to. Middle order is fine. Webster has an issue with the ball angling in, head has been inconsistent for a while and Carey keeps finding ways to get himself out.

Going into the west indies, I would bring in kPat for the injured smith and go

1. Konstas
2. Usman
3. Kpat
4. Green
5. Head
6. Webster
7. Carey

I think we still have a good enough top 7 in that to put par scores on the board and hope the bowlers do the rest.

Most important thing right now is using AUS-A to get a look at some potential top 3 players and bowlers to replace the big 3. Jewell, Kellaway, McSweeney, maybe even Sangha on current form, and hope one of them finds a marnus peak.

Smith may play a part in WI

Well done SA, and well done Temba Bavuma. He's definitely one who has excelled as a captain.
Wasn't there a thread on here about the best captain and most went for Cummins. Captaincy is easier when you have a gun bowling attack and enough quality batters. I chose Bavuma because he has captained a side with one great fast bowler and a batting line up that is either inexperienced or underperforms.

Now that I'm a bit more level-headed (although the euphoria hasn't worn off yet! ), I do have to say what a great match this was and definitely a perfect advertisement for the format and the competition. Neither side was on top for a lengthy period, with the initiative switching back and forth multiple times, and it was only at the end of yesterday's play that I felt the result was probably certain, even if I wasn't prepared to completely count Australia out.

The Ashes may mean that Australia see England as their biggest rivals, but from a South African perspective Australia are the yardstick we measure ourselves against. Winning against them is never easy, even when it's been a weaker Australian side than usual, and without meaning any disrespect to the other nations, claiming the WTC with a victory over Australia just makes it a bit more special.

And credit must definitely go to Australia. They came at us like we knew they would, and while it might have been a disappointing result for them, I don't think they can be disappointed at the effort they put it.
