Gatekeeping who can be a fan of who/what is legit one of the direst things imo. People can support whoever they like for whatever reason they like. People should just be happy that there are other people out there getting interested in the same things as they are.
*********. You support your dad's team, or the team closest to you. Anything else, and you can get in the sea for all I care.

I've reserved my judgement for a little while but that Wharton is a serious player. Not many current English midfielders who are as complete as he is, if any.
Thought initially last season was an outlier but he's been superb since returning this season.
What's the general thought re his availability in the summer? Palace likely to negotiate?
Hard to say. We know that Wharton is one of several players who are likely to be targets of bigger clubs. Maybe he's less obvious as he missed much of the season, but another impressive performance in the FA Cup Final will bring him to everyone's attention. My take on the matter is that so long as Glasner's there, the likelier it is that the players won't be tempted.

Hey, like I say, support who you like for whatever reasons you like. If your reasons are "pleasing daddy", then good luck to you.
Can't wait for when Sledger Jnr announces himself a Spurs fan.....

Some of my happiest childhood memories were attending football matches with my Dad. I kind of feel sorry for those who just picked a team 'coz they win lots' and missed out on that bonding time.

Yeah that's fair enough.

I've been reading that Guehi is the likely one to go this summer given his age and contract situation etc. Lacroix is some replacement in any case.

Wharton is the one I'd love to sign. Would be a quality addition to our midfield but I suspect we won't be willing to pay up.

As much as I love to watch Eze, he's not what we need. Sort of player I can see Spurs, Chelsea or United signing. I think there's a release clause there.

The Premier League has made tons of money from internationalisation. I have more issue with someone in the UK choosing to support a particular team for glory when their local team needs their support. When the clubs have been deliberately spreading their brand overseas, it seems pretty churlish to complain when non-Brits choose one of the big teams to support.
I don't care about who an overseas fan supports, they can do what they like. It's the doombrain in your local who slags off his home town team for being rubbish and gets excited about his Prem team on tv but has never been anywhere near the ground that annoys me.

Those supporters/idiots are the worst.

That and Wrexham fans who have jumped on the Hollywood bandwagon.

Eh, if it happens it happens.

It wouldn't be my choice, obviously. But like I say, if I end up being the kind of grown, adult, man who gets upset about such things, I daresay there will be far more severe problems afoot with my life than my son's choice of football team.

But why?

Honestly, who cares?

RE: this, I think this also works in reverse.

My dad, an ardent fan of Rotherham Utd, had no affiliation or fondness for Arsenal whatsoever prior to me picking them as my team. But he often says how some of his favourite memories are those of the times we spent together watching them.

But you lived nowhere near Rotherham so I kind of get that, at least Arsenal was relatively close. Now imagine you chose Liverpool, I doubt you'd have gone to many games together.

I mean, most of the games we went to together were away games, so I don't imagine it would have been much different. To say nothing of the games we watched on the TV etc.

Well I can safely say I've loved going to matches with my dad again. For 35+ years he has been on radio and tv on a Saturday reporting on football but now he's not getting many matches we go to Shrewsbury a lot.

We worked it out that it was 88/89 season the last time we went as fans and sat together, not counting Wembley trips. Probably average 10 a season together the last 4 years.

Best part of getting divorced was the chance to spend more time with my dad. Means even more now with mum dying in January.

If I'd chosen my local team at the time (Leeds) my life at home wouldn't have been worth living! As it is my local team is now also my dad's team, not that he goes to watch them these days.

Great memories of going to games with him though. You can't replace that by watching your chosen team on the telly.
