Definitely not 140. People were fair at criticizing his pace. He's 6'9''. I'd bowl 175 k's rockets if I were that height.Nah, not really. He's still rather quick.
If II could move around.

Height isn’t a major factor in speed. Look at McGrath vs Lee.Definitely not 140. People were fair at criticizing his pace. He's 6'9''. I'd bowl 175 k's rockets if I were that height.

Makes me feel better.Height isn’t a major factor in speed. Look at McGrath vs Lee.

Average against West Indies – 39.46Shows how good Border was to average 75 in the WI against Marshall, Garner, and Holding all at their peak
I believe he’s referring to the 1983/84 series. As I think I’ve mentioned previously, all 3 were devastating in 1984. (note: this was the series where Garner took over as the new ball from Holding)Average against West Indies – 39.46
Oh? what did he average there?I believe he’s referring to the 1983/84 series. As I think I’ve mentioned previously, all 3 were devastating in 1984. (note: this was the series where Garner took over as the new ball from Holding)
I will be completely fair, Marshall missed the first test, and Holding missed the first two. Still…
Garner 31 @ 16.87
Marshall 21 @ 22.85
Holding 13 @ 18.84
Border 521 @ 74.42 1 ton 4 fifties
Top scored for the series, more than doubled the nearest Australian (258). Out of his 5 50+ scores he was not out in 3 of them, and run out in another. Lot of runs left out there. A great series.
Note: In 1984, both Garner and Marshall took 70+ wickets @ 20 and Holding took 43 @ 19.
Sadly Border’s form did not continue into the 84/85 series in Australia against them.
247 @ 27.44 1 fiftyOh? what did he average there?
Eh, he made 98* and 100* at Port of Spain against Garner and Marshall on a very slow dead Trindiad wicket which is a spin track. Still a great series overallYup. I think averaging 40 against bowling attack with 3 ATG bowlers on pitches with pace, bounce, and seam is very impressive but that’s just me. That series in the WI is one of the greatest ever.
To better put it in context, 98* out of 255 and 100* out of 299, completely saving Australia from an innings defeat and turning it into a draw.Eh, he made 98* and 100* at Port of Spain against Garner and Marshall on a very slow dead Trindiad wicket which is a spin track. Border said it was a spicy pitch iirc, not sure if it’s true thoughTo better put it in context, 98* out of 255 and 100* out of 299
How does that contradict what I saidTo better put it in context, 98* out of 255 and 100* out of 299
You’re making it out like it was an easy pitch against them. Hell look at the first innings, Garner took 6/60. Lets also not forget he SAVED the match, turning what should’ve been an innings victory into a draw. How does that contradict what I said
Alright? all of that can be done on a spinny wicket and not a pace bounce paradise. I'm discussing the nature of the tridiad pitch, you're discussing match situation. You’re making it out like it was an easy pitch against them. Hell look at the first innings, Garner took 6/60. His performances were so impressive that Dujon said his greatest disappointment was border not scoring a hundred in both innings iircYou’re making it out like it was an easy pitch against them. Because you are (quite obviously) trying to downplay the performance, for some silly reason.Alright? all of that can be done on a spinny wicket and not a pace bounce paradise. I'm discussing the nature of the tridiad pitch, you're discussing match situation.
