cricinfo desperately trying to paint India as the underdogs in this fourth innings lalalalalalalal

4.52pm Incredible Test cricket! Genuine respect in the final scenes there, Siraj of course was right at the heart of the feisty scenes last night, but he's played his part in a wonderful, feisty, fighting display from his team. No-one gave them a prayer when they went to lunch eight-down, but with Ravindra Jadeja refusing to buckle in a simply magnificent 61 not out, they ground out a wicketless afternoon, then came within touching distance of sneaking over the line at the end.
It wasn’t a minefield; numbers 9, 10, and 11 spent four hours at the crease, and they were 40 odd for 1 this time yesterday. Jadeja and the bowlers should be upset.

I hate to be a downer after such a great game but what’s the deal with people praising Jadeja? How does striking at 30 batting with the tail for three hours and getting stranded 20 runs short count as a good innings? I thought Bumrah and Siraj did their part sticking around and Jadeja just couldn’t get the job done.
if Bumrah NKR, Bumrah or literally anyone supported him more India would've won tbh.

There was a very high probability he’d just hole out if he tried to take on the fielders in the deep. The ball was soft and dead by the end. Just wasn’t pinging off the bat at all. He’s also not exactly a power hitter which makes it even harder.

I think a few risks against Bashir or Root could have been taken. But like, they made 88 runs with the turgid approach. It wasn’t far away from working.

As well as he played, Bumrah deviated from the script and paid the price.

Yeah, probably. If anything, this is the kind of defeat that brings a team together. It could've done the opposite if we'd been blown away for <100 as it looked likely at one stage. It's now upto Gambhir and Gill to rally the team around the fight shown today.
There is a chance but I still see a recurring pattern of India not seizing the crucial moments and its reflecting in the scoreline.

We beat England 4-1 in India but the series was closer than what the scoreline suggested. I think same thing is happening here.

With Pant injured, our chances drop down drastically. No one can bat quite like he does in red ball.

Well it was clearly working because we were only 20 runs away when it looked at one stage we'd lose by 70-80, I dont know what your point is lol.
It wasn't working , law of averages suggest he was only delaying the inevitable, losing by 70/80 or 20 it doesn't matter, that's where Gambhir has to do better..he was supposed to say Jaddu the tempo you are playing we will win in the final 20 minutes , but that means Bumrah and Siraj must face 120+ balls combined are you confident they can do that ?

We are not talking about Liam Plunkett level tailenders here , we are talking about two guys who average single figures ..Sometime you gotta be realistic.

Not sure if serious...?

He marshalled two pretty rank bunnies to within 22 of a total, his team having been 8 down with >70 still needed.

I mean, he could've said "Fuck it" and have a slog, if that's your go, but was a pretty damn fair (and atypical) effort, IMHO.
Just trying to pad his stats IMO

It was literally working because it was getting the team closer to the target. Would you have rated the innings higher if he'd made 60 in 50 balls instead? It achieved the exact same thing even though it was slow.

The more balls you expose the tail to, the more likely they are to get out. It happened eventually. I know it wasn't easy when the ball went dead, but felt like sooner or later it would fail.

Yes if he could have pulled a Stokes 2019
No if he would have got out slogging
