In 2017 dharmshala pitch had something for fast bowlers. It was shocking that they got outbowled by freaking bhuvi kumar. If we dont rebulid properly by 2027 and you have smith and lyon still playing aus might win away bgt for first time since 2004That does not stop the fact that they throw away a perfectly good opportunity to win a test at Delhi which would have gone a long way towards winning the series
Not to mention the 2017 series that they really should have won. Until NZ did the unthinkable, Aust was clearly the most competitive team in India for a decade
Probably not (in my opinion).Would you not think India would have won the Border Gavaskar trophy had they won the infamous Sydney all those years ago?
AgreedProbably not (in my opinion).
I personally think that they "probably" would have gone on to lose the Perth Test under normal circumstances. The whole drama of the Sydney Test fired India up (and may have had a negative impact on Aus?). Indian team was so pumped and motivated that they performed beyond expectation. The win in Perth was too little too late though.
They were playing for a draw in Sydney weren’t they? I don’t recall them having a crack at a chase that day. Could be mistaken though.Would you not think India would have won the Border Gavaskar trophy had they won the infamous Sydney test all those years ago?
Yeah. I think finger spinners are subhuman as much as the next guy, but the idea Lee > Lyon is reprehensible tbh. And it’s close between he and Starc imo.Lyon getting done bad here
I'd say Cummins is still the most important but Lyon is up there I agree.Yeah. I think finger spinners are subhuman as much as the next guy, but the idea Lee > Lyon is reprehensible tbh. And it’s close between he and Starc imo.
Lyon is the most important bowler in the Australian team. Not the best, he the most important.
There batting was still significantly superior to what Hazlewood was bowling at and not to mention the flatter nature of the wickets. Can't recall whether Gayle was there but lara, chandrapul, sarwan, adams etc were a class apart compared to club level batters they have now. Gillespie bowled brilliant in 01 in India too from memory. Hazlewood is yet to prove himself in the subcontinent although it's not entirely his faultHa the WI were on the deep slide by the time Gillespie faced them. His record is pretty sketchy too. Both against opponents and at times of his career. Adjusted for BD and Zim his average is up to 27, which is good especially for that flat wicket era, but around Fleming's. I just don't think he matches the hype. We could've got by without him then and now. In fact the durability of McGrath and Warne prolonged his career. Without them he would have been a reduced bowler. Given his injury problems he isn't comparable to any of the current 3. Granted he's better away than Boland but the latter hasn't had the opportunities. In Australia I'd prefer Boland.
EDIT - Fleming's ave was 25.89 which surprised me.
wut they were winning that game in a canter without the ball change #cheating pomsAustralia were certainly losing that final test as they were mentally shot after Manchester.
Feel like Starc has been better the last four or five years. I don’t rate Lyon as much since that calf injuryYeah I don't see how you could have Starc above Lyon tbh. He's a good solid bowler, but Lyon has won a hell of a lot of games for Aus. He's frustrated at times too, and gone missing sometimes at the tail end of series, but then again so has Starc.
I mean that's only two years, not four or five. Lyon hasn't quite been at his peak for a while now and Starc has been very good, but that's only a fraction of their overall careersFeel like Starc has been better the last four or five years. I don’t rate Lyon as much since that calf injury
two seperate points. Lyon has been pretty average the last couple years while Starc has been very good the last five.I mean that's only two years, not four or five. Lyon hasn't quite been at his peak for a while now and Starc has been very good, but that's only a fraction of their overall careers
Would say good chance. Isn't he sort of the master of the pink ball?So we're all set for Mitchell Starc to play his 100th Test. Hope he gets 5 wkts as well to make it 400
Fantastic career of fitness, especially given every other Aussie pace bowler seems plagued by constant unjuries during his career
Also not losing 2 home series would certainly make their records more impressiveThey needed atleast a single series win in England or India tbh to achieve true greatness. The frustrating thing was they were probably 2 good sessions away from winning their last 2 assignments each in England and India but just couldn't close it out
Hazelwood and Starc aren't that close. He sits in between them.surely Gillespie is either ahead of both hazlewood and starc or behind both of them
