If so, not as much as me. I also say not 3. I also disagreed with your consensus of 7. Needs too much time to build an innings and should be higher. Traditional bats should be higher. If he ever gets himself in, he is gonna end up scoring too slowly until he starts running out of partners.

I'm not actually sure I'm wrong on this long term. But I was thinking that this game. And that is the most apocalyptically bad call imaginable for this one.

I sort of understood why they did it and he still has to prove himself over time and against better quality but 3 is such a big leap. It reminds me of us putting Brian McMillan there because Cullinan, Cronje and Rhodes wanted 4,5,6 & it allowed us to keep that with all the other all-rounders. Three is such is a tough position, especially in SA you need to be able to deal with that new ball well & often.

Shukri has backed him and he has been rewarded. He says the more responsibility he is putting on Wiaan's shoulders it is getting the best out of him.

Remember he was batting 7/8 before this promotion so maybe this challenge could be the making of him because now he can score the runs he believes his batting talent warrants. It's been his bowling keeping him in the team until the last 18 months or so.
