It's irrelevant to this match, but I can already picture trouble for Australia when England arrive for the Ashes. They're just too reliant on their bowlers to bail them out, while many of their batsmen are hit and miss. Apart from Smith and Head, most are pretty bang average at the moment. Going by England's brilliance in Yorkshire recently against India, it looks like they have tempered things a bit while still playing with a winning mentality.

To be sure, I could be blowing things out of proportion. But this period looks somewhat similar to how the late 2000s and early 2010s were for Oz, considering they have to work this hard against a West Indian side. Could we see a 2010-11 Ashes repeat?

Unless Archer is playing the English bowling is seriously terrible

I think Australia will hang onto the Ashes with a 3-2 or 2-2. I see the real problems happening 12 months later when an emerging NZ side replete with gifted youngsters crush Australia who will have Khawaja, Smith, Starc, Hazelwood, Boland, and Lyon all retire post Ashes retention.

Excellent performance by the West Indies. The lead is now 45 for Australia. West Indies should definitely aim for a slender lead of about 20-30 at least.

Probably only Khawaja will retire after the Ashes. And maybe Lyon. Not sure about the rest, though. Smith might hang on till about the 2027 Ashes in Britain. Starc still has the firepower in him, so I wouldn't be surprised if he even plays in the 2027 CWC in Africa. Boland still has fresh legs due to him only playing a few tests here and there, while Hazlewood/Cummins are still a bit younger.

I think batting time is more important than a lead ..Ideally you want to bat 100 overs minimum in Test cricket, the fresher your bowling attack the greater chance you have of winning this grand old game , the lead will take care of itself the longer you bat
