1st Test (Leeds) - 20th June

Mad how it's such a hard place to bat plenty of the time.

Yet can has these massive 4th innings chases throughout the years too.
I reckon the 'hard place to bat' reputation is because, when the weather permits, you get infamous collapses, though in the aggregate, Headingley averages out to be a batting wicket.

It's because there's a bit of grass on the pitch sometimes (which doesn't last) and/or or there's swinging weather (which also doesn't last).

It can't really afford to deteriorate on top of those things, so there's a bit of overcompensation and flat 5th days are common.

Trent Bridge does the same thing.

If we somehow get over the line here first of all huge praise for the Pope and Duckett innings to give both innings a platform to keep us in the game but you have to look at the first innings collapse from India imo. 4 or 5 years ago they would have put their foot down on us and slit our throats posting a first innings 550+ total and we would have been cooked.

From there on some poor fielding has just compounded the fact they should have gone bigger in the first digs.
