can't you just say Batsman in men's games and batswoman in women's games?

I'm old, but when I was a kid it was proper use of English to simply refer to a person with masculine pronouns or terms when the gender of the person in question was either unknown or irrelevant.

Never saw anything wrong with that, and I'm a woman to boot.
