also, Foakes was quite awful in batting with the tail, not sure 7 is ideal for him.

Because Foakes showed he can only bat with the top 6.

He should have batted 5 and Stokes 7 last year in India.

it was fine until 2023 but fell off the cliff in 2024, something to do with playing spin a lot I reckon.

Stokes' average in the last 2y is 33 so barely below his overall average. Lack of big innings an issue, maybe. He doesn't score hundreds.

Yeah two things annoy me here about the Shardul selection. He is our only genuine swing bowler in this line up, so ideally you would bowl him as early as possible, I would even give him the new ball and see if he can get it to whoop around. Siraj seems to waste new balls these days in tests, and Prasidh is always a first/second change bowler, across formats.

Second, if you really dont rate his bowling so much, why not pick NKR who is the far better batsman, or Kuldeep, who is a far better bowler?

What's stokes average with the bat over the past 2 years? Feels like he's been shite for a while.

Since the Ashes in 2023 he averages 27.43 from 25 knocks and 5 half centuries.
