I have no idea why he was so unhappy, given that the dismissal inself was not at all controversial (clean bowled by Steve Waugh) and he had made a large hundred before being dismissed.

Nah. He chopped it on. Not cleaned bowled. He was annoyed at himself.

You can see it on YouTube (at about 5:30) - he doesn't get his bat/glove out of the way, deflects the ball onto the stumps, and as he walks off, he swings his bat in annoyance and knocks out the leg stump. The commentators don't even mention that he did it.
