I'm in shock as I just read the prize money for this WTC final is US$ 3.6 million with losers getting US$ 2.1 million

So that's A$ 5.5 million to win one Test, or A$ 3.2 million even if they're flogged in 3 days, unbelievable

Thats some good incentive for non big 3 teams surely.

Also, just realised its only on Amazon Prime here. Will be a novel experience watching sports on Amazon Prime

Nah smith shouldn't be batting 3. He's not the peak smith of 2016-2019 who could walk in vs the new ball and thrive. From memory since 2022 he's averaging ~30 in tests if his entry point is pre 30 over mark (opening and batting 4) vs ~60-65 post 30 over. I think he should be batting lower if anything.

I think green is our long term #4, but if smith is in the team the gap between him vs the old and new ball is too big to ignore. Green can bar where he fits until smith calls it quits.
Excellent post. Its weird how some blokes here just don't get it and go all Ian Chappell like blah your best player bats 3 blah

I think with wickets being spicier and balls moving for longer, there's is a good case of most teams using lesser batters to blunt the new ball at 3 so their best player can thrive later. I mean both England and SA bat vastly inferior batsmen at 3 for this reason

Shoutout to Maharaj. Will end up as SA’s 2nd greatest spinner - if he’s not there already. Also if SA win I’m perfectly happy to call Bavuma the greatest test captain of all time.
Was Paul Adams really that good?

A lot of discussion on the Aussie batting lineup, but how the hell is South Africa gonna score runs against this attack?

He was easily our best performing spinner post isolation in test cricket until Kesh (+Harmer) came along.

It was Eddie Barlow who spotted his talents and pushed them with the people at WP/SA cricket.

He started so well. The downside was that when things didn't go well a lot of voices would give him their opinions and of course for someone with such a unique action many of them didn't help and it confused him.

Probably would have done better had he had a more understanding captain. Sadly when he played our captains didn't view attacking spin bowlers very favorable.

From what I can tell the last 5 Tests at Lords over last 3 years the team winning the toss has bowled 1st. Can we assume that'll be the case today?

It's certainly a bit overcast this morning in the South of England, warm too, so could swing a bit.

But I'd still sooner bat first, afternoon looks bright. Get through first session then rack them up...
