Viv Richards. Tendulkar is marginally better with the bat than Viv by the barest of all margins but Viv an endlessly superior leader/captain and fielder, in test the better Cricketer is very hard to say. Viv clearly better in one days and thus a better accross format player.

AB De Villiers. In my opinion, again, debatable batters in White Ball Cricket but De Villiers clearly better in tests, Kohli could captain but De Villiers could keep wickets.

Joel Garner. Better bowler in both formats so I don't know how this is debatable.

Ricky Ponting. Better leader who never brought shame to his nation, and he is two or three tiers above Smith as an ODI bat while Smith is a tier above Punter as a test bat. also, a better fielder imo.

Shaun Pollock. Again, Kallis is clearly better in tests but the gap in one day is humongous, let's just say, if Kallis was transported to England in 2019 then I don't think he make our white ball side, while Pollock is the first name on the sheet.

Glenn McGrath. Just a better bowler in both formats, a small gap in White Ball Cricket but a big gap in red ball Cricket.

It’s impossible to compare especially in one day cricket since so much has change in the last 50 years.
Garner was the best of his era.
Bumrah is the best of his era.
Bumrah is far better in test cricket.

Hmm

Think Steve Smith the ODI bat is underrated. He isn't that far from Ponting.

Isn't Kallis being underrated here? Averaged 44 with the bat, yes with low SR, and over 270 wickets.

I mean, I think Ponting was number 2 from his era, thanks to Lara going to Middle Order, I don't think Smith is top 5 one-day bats of his era.

He often became a liability because of his issues at striking, which is extremely important in One Day Cricket, he probably won't survive modern day white ball Cricket.

I get why Pollock is better but to suggest a huge gulf to me doesn't make sense given Kallis has an AR contribution.

As someone who doesn’t closely follow ODI cricket, hard disagree.

Tendulkar vs Viv - Even Viv is marginally better bat in ODI and Tendulkar in Test. Viv is a brilliant fielder and a tactician. Tendulkar is a way better bowler than Viv. (Infact Tendulkar would have been better than any woeful spinner WI managed to field post Gibbs)

Kohli vs ABD - Kohli. Much more than the batsman

Bumrah vs Garner - Even. both are excellent in both formats. Garner unluckily had the best ever test pacemen playing in the same era.

Ponting vs Steve Smith - Ponting. Way better ODI player

S Pollock vs Kallis - Pollock is an asset in both test and ODIs. Kallis not the best player for ODIs.

Wasim vs McGrath - McGrath. Clearly superior in both formats
