I think blaming him for Bumrah's injury is a bit too much..... Especially giving how Great Akashdeep, Rana, Washington and Jadeja were. Bottomline, if he can't be a 5th bowler, we have little use for him.
It's not a personal slight, but when you don't have a reliable 4th pacer in Reddy that causes issues because Siraj was straining himself as the 2nd pacer and we didn't pick Prasidh and Akash Deep earlier for some stupid reason to help balance the load. He wasn't able to hold a line and length or be a strike option, so there's no point in thinking of him as an AR just yet. I'd rather have 4 Test level pacers and risk the longer tail if it means there's a better chance of taking wickets.

Well, I don't think having 4 proper pacers will be much useful. But if they have to field 4 pacers, then Reddy can't play.

What makes you think 4 pacers can't work? It worked just fine before in 2021, and you need the extra fast bowler to be able to share the load in order to match England's pacers playing in conditions familiar to them.

I don't think we will need an extra out right pacer to match England in England. I think a part timer like Reddy will work just fine alongside Bumrah, Shami and Siraj/Akashdeep.

We know that Shami's struggled in England relative to his expectations, and he's just coming back from injuries and not looking well so far atm. Siraj and Akash Deep are inconsistent and untested respectively. Reddy is not going to be fine, that's like saying India was fine in the BGT that they lost 1-3.

4 proper pacers for India is a must in England. Let's not forget England will inevitably take apart half the bowlers with their bazball, so India will definitely need more frontline options. For eg, suppose Siraj goes for 73 in 8 overs, then India will find themselves a bowler short already. How will India then take 10 wickets with the remaining 1 or 2 wicket-taking fast bowlers? It will be a disaster like the time when England chased 370-380 just 4 wickets down in the 5th Test in 2022. If not this, India would end up overbowling Bumrah and risking his career.

Also, need to pick bowlers who know how to contain the runrate. I think Arshdeep could be a handful in English conditions.

Bumrah
Arshdeep
Akashdeep
Siraj/Shami

Fast bowlers aren't spinners. They tire quickly so you need a fresh pair ready to go once the two in operation have bowled their spell. Lords Test 2021, the only reason India won was because India had 4 frontline pacers, providing perfect rotation-
Bumrah
Shami

Ishant
Siraj

If even one of these guys hadn't played and someone like a Reddy had played instead, India would not have won. 4 pacers = lesser workload, fresher bowlers, more productive overs, ideal rotation whereby you don't need to bring a spinner on just because you are giving rest to your pacers, you can keep attacking. And even if one has a bad day, you still have others ready to step up.

3 pacer strategy may be sufficient if all 3 pacers or at least 2 pacers are world class. India currently doesn't have 2 world class fast bowlers. Shami is on his last legs, while Siraj is erratic. So India does need cover in the pace department.

Whatever it takes!!!
Excited and hoping to see this side line up for us in the first test in England.

Jaiswal (lb)
Rahul (backup keeper)
Sai Sudarshan (ob)
Shubman Gill (c)
Rishabh Pant (wk) (vc)
Nitish Reddy (rmf)
Ravi Jadeja (sla)
Harshit Rana (rf) / Shardul Thakur (rfm)
Arshdeep Singh (lfm)
Jasprit Bumrah (rf)
Mohammed Siraj (rfm) / Prasidh Krishna (rfm)

5 left handers welll spread out through the batting order.. Enough fast bowling options with part time spin to cover up any overs necessary and enough batting with 7 proper test batsmen and a can bat #8 with some decent lower order willow wielders at 9 and 10.

Why are we picking Sai over Padikkal/Patidar/Shreyas/Sarfaraz again? It's not like he's done all that well in FC cricket, and I'd rather have him develop more before getting a shot. As well as Arshdeep/Harshit/Lord over better bowlers??? This is just asking for a beating tbh.
