English Domestic Season 2025

I'm sure there are multiple questionable decisions across 4 days of any match.
That partnership was brilliant regardless of the umpire

Eesh. Shouldn't have been losing that. Cox getting injured meant we set a few less than ideal, but we should have had enough runs in the bank when they were 6 down with 100+ required overnight. I don't think Harmer is quite what he was and perhaps he might have been a tad overbowled, but Essex can't be happy with that performance today.

Rew is the youngest english bat to score 10 FC 100's since Dennis Compton at 21 YO. Seems like a really exciting prospect and he keeps as well. Can some Lancs fans who've seen more of him speak to his prospects? Is he an Ollie pope situation where there's glaring flaws in his game despite the great fc numbers (Pope had a crazy low SR vs spin in county coming into Test cricket and had a way better record at the oval, relative to other venues).

I'm sure Lancs fans can but Somerset fans might have more insight.....

Signs last summer that Harmer was beginning to slow down a little from his high standards. Needs 37 more wickets for a 1000 FC wickets. Will be pretty cool. 🤞

I can't say I've watched so much of him as I'm neither a Lancs or Somerset fan, but I was at the Oval a week yesterday when he rather tamely got caught at a sort of leg gully in a pre-prepared trap to a shortish ball from Worrall. He had apparently got out in a similar vein to a shortish ball first innings. It was certainly commented on by guys who go there a fair bit more than me with the comments that 'he don't like it up him'! If this is more than an isolated incident, then I would suggest that this is a bit of a problem. A glaring flaw with Essex is that they obviously lack a bit of pace in their seam attack, regardless of whether Harmer is on the decline. That may have helped yesterday although it should be said that Worrall is hardly rapid either.

Essex were fielding Rajitha as an overseas player, and he looked reasonably pacey as far as I could tell from the live stream. They do also have Jamal Richards who is more of an out and out fast bowler than Porter or Cook, but he doesn't seem to have broken into their first team yet.

Jamal Richards is on loan at Kent and he didn't bowl a huge amount against Middlesex and was expensive when he did.

A perfect article to explain why

I knew his Lions outings hadn't been great didn't realise he'd been that bad. Averaging 16 from 8 matches!

Goes into a lot more depth than than that, but a key takeaway.

Yeah, I mentioned the other day that he rather too easily got seen off by Dan Worrall at a sort of leg gully not playing a short ball too well and Worrall is hardly rapid.
