Steyn - a decade of 5WPM taking wickets across the world

Imran - ATG peak and well rounded success

Ambrose - not well rounded and issues in wickettaking record outside Aus/Eng.

Ambrose was extraordinary in Eng & Aus but his record in other places is almost non-existent. 36 wickets in 12 Tests in NZ/SA/Pak/SL.

Imran may not have had the excellence that Ambrose had in those places but his record feels more versatile. He had good to great series in more places.
18 wkts in 3 Test series in Australia.
21 wkts in 3 Test series in England.
40 wkts in 6 Test series in India.
23 wkts in 3 Test series in WestIndies.
10 wkts in 2 Test series in NewZealand.

Exactly. He also had excellent series in Aus and Eng in 81 and 87 respectively.

He simply was more proven across conditions.

And despite all the claims otherwise, there is no way we can be sure how Ambrose would have done with more tests in SC, especially after his pace declined in 94.

4 or more WPM in a series(min : 2 Tests)

I think that’s a basic minimum for a good series

Ambrose : Australia, England & Pakistan

Imran : Australia, England, India, NewZealand, SriLanka and WestIndies.

Holding : Australia, England & India.

Garner : Australia, England & NewZealand.

Donald : Australia, England, India and SriLanka

Steyn : Australia, England, India, Pakistan, SriLanka, Bangladesh and WestIndies.

The man who averages less than 14 against every opponent, less than 15 in every place and averaged less than 18 in every series is the GOAT.
